Woman accused in ‘Sandy Hook’ threats in Broward jail

Allegedly sent threats to father of massacre victim.

F O R T L AU D E R DA L E — A 57-year-old woman accused of sending death threats to the father of a 6-year- old boy killed along with 25 others in Newtown, Conn., is being held in the Broward County Jail after a federal court appearance Wednesday.

Lucy Richards, of Brandon, was scheduled to plead guilty March 29 to transmitti­ng threats in Fort Lauderdale and was expected to be sentenced to house arrest and no jail time. But Richards informed her court-ap- pointed attorney the morning of the hearing that she did not plan to attend.

A j u d g e r e v o k e d h e r $25,000 bond and issued an arrest warrant for Richards, who was taken into custody April 3 at Brandon Regional Hospital. Richards remained in the Pinellas Count y Jai l until she was transferre­d Tuesday to the Broward County Jail.

Richards will remain jailed until a new court date has been set in her case.

Fol l owing t he Dec. 14 , 2012, shootings, several victims’ relatives have been threatened or harassed by conspiracy theorists, many of whom say the massacre was staged as an attack on gun rights.
