WEST PA L M B E AC H — A 24-year-old Boynton Beach wo ma n i n d i c t e d i n t h e death of her 11-month-old nephew on Christmas Eve was ordered held without bond during a brief hearing Saturday.

Adeline Edwards appeared before Judge Bradley Harper at the Palm Beach County Ja i l , where she wil l c ontinue to be held on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

After the hearing, her sister said the only adults in the home on the night Kalobe Williams was fatally injured were Adeline Edwards and a sleeping uncle and that Edwards “took the charge so nobody else will be blamed for it.”

“It’s hard. I hate that my nephew lost his life. I hate that my sister is in jail, going to be in jail for the rest of her life. Nobody was there that night,” Dominique Edwards said after the hearing Saturday.

“We’ll never know what happened,” she added.

Boynton Beach police have accused Adeline Edwards of causing the death of Kalobe. The child died Dec. 24 at Delray Medical Center, a day after he was found injured in a family member’s home. His death resulted from bluntforce trauma to the rear of his head, cit y police said, and the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner ruled the case a homicide.

After multiple interviews, Adeline Edwards admitted to Boynton Beach detectives that she had struck Kalobe multiple times on the night of Dec. 23, city police said. The g r a nd j ur y i ndi c t e d her Thursday, and she was arrested Friday at a home on Northwest 13th Avenue.

A public defender representing Edwards said at Saturday’s hearing that Edwards no longer wishes to speak with law enforcement.

Half a dozen or so family members attended the hearing to show support for Edwards. Her sister said Kalobe’s mother was not at the hearing but also stands behind Edwards.

“It’s devastating. It’s just so much,” Dominique Edwards said.
