Derek Jeter’s No. 2 was retired Sunday by the New York Yankees, who dedicated a plaque in his honor that will be placed in Monument Park behind center field.

Jeter captained the Yank e e s d u r i n g mu c h o f a 20-year career that ended in 2014 and included five World Series titles and a New York-record 3,465 hits.

He is the 22nd player to have his number retired by New York, by far the most among major league teams, and he was the last to wear a single-digit number.

Jeter, 42, picked Mother’s Day for the ceremony, and his grandmother, parents, sister, nephew and pregnant wife joined him at Yankee Stadium. He says “there isn’t a person or player I would trade places with that’s playing now or ever.”

“You know, you play here in New York for 20 years, you know I learned that time flies, memories fade, but family is forever, and I’ll be eternally grateful to be a part of the Yankees’ family,” he told fans at Yankee Stadium during the pregame ceremony. “So I can’t thank you guys enough.”

■ The Yankees placed c l os e r Arol di s Chapman on the 10-day disabled list because of left shoulder rotator cuff inflammation. General manager Brian Cashman said Chapman will be shut down for t wo weeks and will likely be out a month “if everything goes right.” The left-hander is 1-0 with a 3.55 ERA and seven saves in eight chances this season.

Indians: Outfielder Brandon Guyer was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a sprained left wrist.

Giants: Outfielder Hunter Pence could be headed for the DL after an MRI revealed a left hamstring strain.

Angels: Third baseman Yunel Escobar was diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, sending him to the DL and likely sidelining him for two to four weeks.

■ Outfielder Mike Trout stole two bases, joining Alex Rodriguez as the only players in MLB history to have hit at least 175 home runs and stolen at least 150 bases before their age-26 season.

Red Sox: Pitcher Drew Pomeranz left Sunday’s start before the fourth inning with left triceps tightness.

White Sox: Infielder Cody Asche was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte. Asche hit .105 with a homer and four RBIs in 18 games.

Orioles: Center fielder Adam Jones was not in the lineup Sunday for the first time this season. “He’s pretty banged up,” manager Buck Showalter said. “He’s got a sore hip. He’s diving, different stuff.” With a day off today, this will give Jones two days to rest.

Cardinals: A crowd of 47,925 attended Sunday’s 5-0 win over the Cubs, the largest crowd in the history of Busch Stadium III..

Mariners: Seattle scored six runs in four games in Toronto after scoring 21 in its previous two games in Philadelphia.
