Rangers’ Gomez to miss a month

Te x a s R a n g e r s c e n t e r f i e l d e r C a r l o s G o mez i s headed to the disabled list and will be sidelined for at least a month with a right hamstring strain. The Rangers said Gomez will be out four to six weeks.

Gomez, who had three hits Sunday, scored from second base on Delino DeShields’ two-out infield single in the seventh inning. Gomez lunged toward the plate to avoid a bat that was still on the ground.

After the game, Gomez said he was going full speed a nd di dn’t want t o sl i de because he thought he could get hurt that way.

Gomez, 31, was in a 7-for14 stretch with three doubles over the four games that led up to his injury.

Giants: Outfielder Hunter Pence was placed on the 10-day DL with a strained left hamstring. Outfielder Mac Williamson was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.

Di a mondbacks: C e n - ter fielder A.J. Pollock was placed on the 10-day DL with a right groin strain. Manager Torey Lovullo said the injury is less severe than the left groin strain that ended Pollock’s season three weeks early last year. Outfielder R e y m o n d F u e n t e s w a s recalled from Triple-A Reno.

W h i t e S o x : C a t c h e r Geovany Soto will undergo a r t h r o s c o p i c s u r ge r y t o remove loose bodies from his right elbow. Soto’s recovery is expected to take a minimum of 12 weeks. Kevan Smith and Omar Narvaez will share catching duties. The White Sox also called up right-hander Gregory Infante from Triple-A Charlotte.

Indians: Slumping slugger Edwin Encarnacio­n was dropped from the cleanup spot for the first time this season Monday night. Encarnacio­n, who hit cleanup in the first 36 games, hit fifth against Tampa Bay.
