Four-run lead wasted in Atlanta

Miami closer Ramos gives up runs in ninth, 10th as win streak ends.

ATLANTA — The Marlins scored seven runs Saturday in a two-inning outburst and didn’t do much else with the bats.

That shouldn’t have mattered, yet it did. Miami’s bullpen failed to lock down a four-run lead as the host Braves rallied to beat the Marlins 8-7 on a run-scoring single from Brandon Phillips in the bottom of the 10th.

The Braves, who trailed by a run before tying things in the ninth, snapped Miami’s threegame winning streak.

“We just have to turn the page, go out there and not let this snowball,” said Dee Gordon, who drove in a run and made a spectacular defensive play to end an Atlanta rally in the sixth.

“We have been playing great baseball. We need to keep our heads up high . ... You can’t get complacent and feel like you’re going to win (a game) just because you have been doing so. This was a punch in the chest. We’ll get back out there (today).” Marlins at Braves,

Atlanta trailed 7-6 going into the ninth but got to closer A.J. Ramos quickly.

Phillips led off the ninth by doubling to left, then raced home with the tying run off a Nick Markakis double, which bounced off first base and bounded down the right-field line.

Ramos struck out Dansby Swanson and Danny Santana to end the threat and force extra innings.

In the 10th, Atlanta had runners at first and second with one out after Ramos fielded a grounder and threw wild at second base. Phillips then sent a drive into center for the win.

“The ball got away from me ... you saw the rest,” said Ramos (1-3), who gave up four hits and surrendered two runs in 1⅓ innings. “This is going to happen from time to time and although we don’t want it to nor is it a goal of ours, sometimes baseball happens.

“You have a bad game, things happen. We just have to keep working and know we can get the job done.”

Miami trailed 3-0 going into the fifth before getting to Atlanta starter Jaime Garcia by scoring five runs in the top of the inning.

J.T. Realmuto led off with a single and scored on a home run by Tyler Moore.

With one out, Christian Colon singled, moved to second on a balk and to third on a passed ball. Pinch-hitter Ichiro Suzuki then laced an RBI single to right to tie the score at 3.

After Gordon moved Suzuki to second on a grounder, Giancarlo Stanton was walked intentionally. Christian Yelich then ripped a double off the right-field wall,
