Co-opt mitigation clause for polluters

-

I can’t express my frustration when I read the editorial “Scott quick to act on Irma, snubs climate change threat” (Sept. 20), whereby Gov. Rick Scott follows the party line of not being a scientist when asked about climate change. I believe I may have found the answer to confront the issue.

I learned from having a wonderful son in the insurance industry that mitigation of damages to property is of the utmost importance. If you have a broken window and do nothing for days to prevent future damages to the room, only the window is paid for by the insurance company.

I would like to see all the property insurance companies in Florida and other states take the biggest carbon-emitters to court to help cover their property owner claims, since the polluters are doing nothing to mitigate the effects their activity is having on the environment. critics of President Trump will likely argue the difference (in media coverage of the last two presidents) is well deserved, he claims a failure to cover positive news about Trump. But that is just the other side of the coin.

Like other Trump apologists, he fails to ask how it is that so much of the press instinctively reacts the same way.

Is it not because of a sense of decency and outrage on the part of most of the press at Trump’s actions and attitudes? Trump’s remarks about Charlottesville and refused to take his call to wish a Happy New Year:

Trump’s administration never acknowledged the Holocaust of the Jewish people, the suffering at the camps on National Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan. 27.

The Jewish New Year recognizes human frailty, freedom of choice and responsibility, and to be living in accord with our ideals and values. I applaud the rabbis for not wishing to speak to a leader who does not recognize human frailty, freedom of choice and responsibility.

Trump has shown us time after time he does not live in accord with our ideals and highest values for human decency.
