BOYNTON BEACH — After arguing with a schoolmate about a girl Monday, Joshua Nathaniel Peart confronted him later in the day with a knife, Boynton Beach police said.

Peart and an unnamed accomplice allegedly then stole the schoolmate’s blue Mini Cooper. Peart, 18, was arrested Monday night on charges of armed carjacking and resisting without violence.

He remained in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail on Wednesday after a judge set his bail at $27,000.

Police say Peart and the 19-year-old attend the same school, but did not specify which one.

According to the report, the 19-year-old told police he had driven to the 300 block of Northeast 20th Avenue at about 9 p.m. Monday to look for his friend. As the man stepped out of his vehicle, Peart and his accomplice approached.

“What’s up now?” Peart reportedly asked.

Peart, who was carrying a knife, chased the 19-yearold, police said.

His accomplice got into the man’s Mini Cooper and stopped to let Peart in, police said.

Police found the vehicle abandoned a short time later in the 300 block of Northeast 15th Avenue. The accuser and his friend both identified Peart as one of the suspects.

After being taken into custody, Peart reportedly began to bang his head against the walls of the holding cell. He was placed into a restraint chair after multiple warnings, the report said.
