Seminoles chase elusive victory

FSU (0-2) seeks road win vs. unbeaten Wake Forest.

It’s been a hard-to-imagine start to the season for the Florida State football team.

In just four weeks, FSU lost its starting quarterback to a season-ending knee injury, dropped to 0-2 for the first time in 25 years, had a game canceled and another postponed because of Hurricane Irma and fell from No. 3 to unranked in the AP Top 25 poll.

Despite the string of bad fortune, one ACC coach still has confidence the Seminoles can compete with any other team in college football.

“Florida State has played two really good teams, and trust me, Florida State is as good as anybody out there, and that will probably prove to be the case by the end of the season,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said Wednesday on the ACC’s weekly media teleconference.

FSU (0-2, 0-1 ACC) looks to bounce back Saturday afternoon when it plays at Wake Forest, which is 4-0, including 1-0 in ACC play.

Florida State will play defending national champion Clemson on Nov. 11 at Clemson Memorial Stadium.

Game may be rescheduled: With hopes of an ACC championship appearance dwindling, Florida State is considering rescheduling its missed game with Louisiana-Monroe, according to ESPN.

The first weekend in December is being discussed for the game originally scheduled for Sept. 9 but canceled because of Hurricane Irma. It would have been Florida State’s home opener.

“We have been in contact with ULM, and we continue to explore options,” FSU Associate Athletic Director Rob Wilson told ESPN.

“Currently, that would be our only possible date if we were to make up the game this year.”

ESPN reported that one reason to reschedule the game would be to give the Seminoles a chance to become bowl-eligible. The first weekend in December is the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte, N.C.
