Nanny faces no charges in kidnapping of boy, 4
Dominic Caprio was not with Blanca Castro when she was arrested in Miami-Dade County; boy was later safely returned.
JUPITER — The state will not be pursuing charges against the Jupiter nanny who was arrested last month in a 4-year-old boy’s kidnapping, court records show.
Blanca Castro, 58, was arrested in Dominic Caprio’s alleged kidnapping less than 12 hours after the boy was reported missing.
Dominic’s disappearance sparked an Amber Alert in mid-August. His mother told authorities the last person who had been with the boy was his nanny, Castro.
She was arrested Aug. 11 in Miami-Dade County on an outof-county
warrant, but the boy was not with her. A legal mediator arranged the boy’s safe return to his mother about 24 hours after he was reported missing.
Dominic’s grandparents were believed to have had the boy. They were in an apparent custody battle with Dominic’s mother, who told investigators she struggles
with substance abuse. Danielle Caprio told police her father had watched Dominic while she received treatment.
The agreement was informal, she told investigators, and she retained full legal custody. At the time of the child’s disappearance, Danielle Caprio said she had been clean for a year.
Jupiter police spokeswoman Kristen Rightler said the investigation remains active, but it was not clear whether anyone else would face charges; however, the State Attorney’s Office said it believes it has concluded its investigation and expects no other charges to be filed.
Castro’s attorney, Manuel Mesa, insisted last month in court that the nanny was not involved in the boy’s kidnapping.
“This lady has been taken into custody without any evidence that she left the house with the child,” Mesa said in August.
