Two touchdowns by WR Robinson lead PB Central past Boca,

BOCA RATON — Palm Beach Central sophomore receiver Bryan Robinson had two touchdown catches Thursday night to help the Broncos to a 26-14 victory over Boca Raton.

But for Robinson, his main satisfaction came from helping his quarterback, senior Nick Atkins.

“We had to do it for him,” Robinson said. The win “was good for the team.”

After the Bobcats (2-2) went three-and-out on their first drive, the Broncos (2-2) drove downfield on their first possession and scored when Robinson hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass from Atkins.

Midway through the second quarter, Boca Raton took a 7-6 lead after starting deep in its territory.

Working through several penalties, sophomore quarterback Michael Pratt ended the drive with a rushing touchdown.

With 39 seconds left in the first half, Robinson nearly added his second touchdown, but dropped the ball in the end zone. Facing a fourth-and-goal, Atkins was stuffed at the goal line, allowing the Bobcats to retain their lead entering halftime.

“At halftime, I’d say we were shocked,” Atkins said. “We felt that we should have been up — we left two touchdowns in the red zone, didn’t capitalize, and ended up down at the half. (Our plan was) just come out and do what we were supposed to do.”

Robinson redeemed himself early in the third quarter, catching a 9-yard touchdown pass to give the Broncos a 12-7 lead.

“What I’m (most proud of ) is that he dropped a touchdown pass and a lot of young players would let that wear on them,” Broncos coach Santino Ierulli said.

“The kid just came back strong. ... That says a lot about a young man, at that age especially.”

Running back Charles Stewart gave the Broncos the lead for good with a 1-yard touchdown that followed a long catch and run from Alex Perrone.

After Boca was stuffed at Palm Beach Central’s goal line, Atkins quickly connected with senior Fornoris Roberts for an 82-yard score that sealed the win.

“Fortunate for us, we’ve been a second-half team. But we’ve got to learn to put two halves together as every championship program’s gotta do,” Ierulli said.
