Four TDs by QB Micioni gives Olympic Heights first-ever win over Dwyer,

PALM BEACH GARDENS — Senior quarterback James Micioni passed for three touchdowns and ran for another score to lead Olympic Heights to a stunning 25-22 upset of fourth-ranked Dwyer on Thursday night at Blum Stadium’s Rick Hubbard Field.

It’s the first time Olympic Heights has defeated Dwyer, and it ranks among the biggest wins in the program’s history.

Micioni was pressured most of the night by Dwyer’s defensive rush, but the quarterback came up with big plays at key moments in the game. He passed for 266 yards, but it was his 2-yard touchdown run with 2:36 remaining that proved to be the game-winner.

“We kept our foot on the gas and he remained calm and made the throws he had to make,” Olympic Heights quarterbacks coach McKinson Souverain said of Micioni.

Dwyer quickly answered Micioni’s touchdown run to pull within three points on a 69-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trevor Omans to Myron Levy. Dwyer then forced Heights to punt, giving the Panthers one more chance to possibly win the game, but the Lions sacked Omans on the final play to secure the historic victory.

“I’d say it’s the biggest we’ve had,” Souverain said.

Aside from a couple of big passing plays, one a 57-yard touchdown pass from Omans to Cedrick Tucker, Dwyer’s offense was mostly stymied in the first half. Dwyer was limited to 34 yards rushing and only three first downs in the first two quarters.

Turnovers also plagued Dwyer in the first half. Omans threw two interceptions and the Panthers lost two fumbles as Heights led 12-7 at the intermission. Dwyer finished with six turnovers in the game.

Olympic Heights put the first points on the board three minutes into the second quarter when Micioni hit Michael Ippolito for a 6-yard touchdown pass.

Micioni connected with Shane Ellis on a 6-yard scoring pass just before halftime.

Ippolito had a big night with eight catches for 152 yards. He also caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Micioni that gave Olympic Heights a 18-7 lead midway through the third quarter.

Omans passed for 248 yards and his 25-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Gadsen early in the fourth quarter sliced Dwyer’s deficit to 18-15.
