Skirmish taints Minnesota-Alabama

Nate Mason scored 20 points to lead No. 14 Minnesota to an 89-84 victory over No. 25 Alabama, which finished the game with just three players, in the championsh­ip of the Barclays Center Classic on Saturday in New York.

Jordan Murphy added 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Golden Gophers (7-0). Collin Sexton had 40 points for the Crimson Tide (5-1).

A near brawl involving Minnesota’s Dupree McBrayer and Alabama’s Dazon Ingram happened in front of the Crimson Tide bench 6:21 into the second half. Just 27 seconds earlier, Mason and Sexton got technical fouls for arguing with each other, and the Golden Gophers guard was ejected.

During the fracas, five Alabama players came off the bench and were ejected. Ingram, who had four fouls at the time of the scuffle, fouled out.

Nearly 3 minutes after the McBrayer-Ingram incident, Alabama lost John Petty to a leg injury.

(At) No. 11 Miami 86, North Florida 65: Bruce Brown and Anthony Lawrence each scored 14 points as the Hurricanes (5-0) cruised past the Ospreys (1-7).

(At) Pittsburgh 80, Lehigh 68: Ryan Luther had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Jonathan Milligan added 14 points as the Panthers (2-4) defeated the Mountain Hawks (3-3).

(At) Virginia Tech 96, Morehead State 63: Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 18 points, Justin Bibbs added 15, and the Hokies (5-1) rolled over the Eagles (1-4).

(At) Providence 86, Boston College 66: Rodney Bullock had 20 points and netted the 1,000th point in his career to help the Friars (5-1) run past the Eagles (5-2).

(At) Texas Tech 103, Savannah State 69: Niem Stevenson and Jarrett Culver each had 18 points, and Zhaire Smith added 17 to help the Red Raiders (6-0) rout the Tigers (2-5).
