Report: Fister lands with Rangers

The Texas Rangers signed one of the first offseason free agents, reportedly agreeing with right-hander Doug Fister for $4 million. Fister, 33, started 15 of his 18 games with the Red Sox last season, going 5-9 with a 4.88 ERA.

Fister is 82-85 with a 3.68 ERA over the past nine major league seasons with five different teams. He joins a Rangers team looking to fill three rotation spots behind lefthander­s Cole Hamels and Martin Perez. Texas also is interested in Shohei Ohtani, the star pitcher-hitter from Japan.

Grey Cup: Lirim Hajrullahu kicked a 32-yard field goal with 49 seconds left as the Toronto Argonauts stunned the Calgary Stampeders 27-24 Sunday night in the CFL’s snowy 105th Grey Cup in Ottawa, Ontario. Toronto tied it with 4:35 to go on Cassius Vaughn’s Grey Cup-record 109-yard fumble return and Ricky Ray’s 2-point conversion pass to Declan Cross.

Olympics: Another five Russians were disqualifi­ed for doping at the Sochi Winter Olympics, among them winners of gold and silver medals. They bring to 19 the number of Russians caught in a program to cover up doping and tamper with tainted samples. The latest cases involved Aleksei Negodailo and Dmitrii Trunenkov, members of the gold medal-winning four-man bobsled; Yana Romanova, the silver medalist in the 4x6-kilometer women’s biathlon relay; Olga Vilukhina, the silver medalist in the same relay and 7.5-kilometer biathlon; and Sergei Chudinov, who was fifth in skeleton.
