BOYNTON’S DUE SOUTH BREWERY DOG-FRIENDLY

-

Our furry friends are allowed on airplanes, at beaches — they even have their own parks — so why not be allowed to tag along at the brewery?

That’s what Due South Brewing says. They have invited their customers to bring dogs to a special area for “man’s best friend” that was unveiled Tuesday.

“People are pretty excited,” said Doug Fairall, Due South’s brand marketing manager.

Dogs are allowed in a space called the “Dog Friendly Area” labeled with signs in the front of the brewery. The brewery, at 2900 High Ridge Road, is allowing all breeds and sizes, but if the dog is too loud they’ll have to take the pooch outside.

Speaking of outside, that’s where Due South is hoping the dogs will use the bathroom, but Fairall said staff is prepared if there is an accident.

“We’re hoping people just kind of use common sense and be responsible and enjoy a beer with their furry friend,” Fairall said.

The brewery had a soft opening for the Dog Friendly Area this weekend and

Fairall said he has seen a couple of dogs inside.

“Very well behaved, which is always good,” he said. “Both dogs and owners.”

The idea to allow the dogs started with customers’ requests a few months ago.

That’s no surprise. Boynton residents love their dogs.

The city is working on getting the furry animals to be able to enjoy the sand and ocean at Oceanfront Park. And the dogs are already allowed at a couple of city parks: Intracoastal Park, 2240 N. Federal Highway; Jaycee Park, 2600 S. Federal Highway; Dewey Park, 100 NE Fourth St.; Boynton Lakes, 300 Boynton Lakes Blvd.; Boynton Village Park and Dog Park, 800 Renaissance Commons Blvd. N.

But back to the brewery, the surprises aren’t stopping here. Due South is about to unveil another addition: Air conditioning.

This month they will open an air-conditioned, 5,000-square-foot tap room.

As for the dogs, Due South isn’t planning on making dog beer or anything along those lines.

They’re sticking to water. “We’ll have some dog bowls for water so (they’re) well hydrated, along with our customers,” Fairall said. “Hydration for everyone.”
