Quilter inspired by local painter

-

Jane Burke’s quilts are popular within her family and the Cascade Lakes community she lives in, west of Boynton Beach.

But one she recently created might be her most popular.

The quilt is on display at City Hall through April and then Burke will give it as a gift to artist Brandon Drucker, whose artwork is featured in this year’s City of Boynton Beach calendar. The quilt, which is 5 feet by 6 feet, is of his paintings.

Drucker, a 26-year-old who has autism, made acrylic paintings of several popular places in Boynton, such as Intracoastal Park, Harbor Marina and The Boardwalk Italian Ice & Creamery. Each painting is paired with a month of the year in the calendar.

The city gave out the calendars to its residents and water and sewage customers. That’s how Burke got one. She lives outside of city limits but uses the city’s water and sewage services, according to a statement from the Cascade Lakes community.

Burke saw the calendar and wanted to make a quilt. She met with Brandon and his mother. The artwork was transferred to cloth blocks.

Last week, the city held an event where Burke presented Brandon with his quilt.

Drucker said he was happy with the quilt and it was nice of Burke to make it.

Burke started making quilts years ago for her grandchildren. She is active in local quilting groups and teaches the craft to people with disabilities, according to the statement.
