EIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
Boynton residents get $2,000 each to attend college in Florida.
The Boynton Woman’s Club has awarded a record eight scholarships to Boynton Beach residents planning to attend a Florida college in the fall.
Club members paid for the scholarships with money from the Community Redevelopment Agency when it bought the club’s building on Federal Highway. The club has awarded scholarships for more than 40 years. This year each scholarship was $2,000.
“We continue to be impressed with the quality of the students at our public schools. We commend the teachers and the counselors who guide these young adults and prepare them to move forward toward their goals, confident, ready and well-prepared for their next challenge at university,” Donna Artes, scholarship co-chair, said in a statement.
The recipients are:
■ Anne Arias, a student at Boynton Beach High School. She is enrolled at Palm Beach State College and plans to go to Florida Atlantic University. She plans to pursue the management information system/ information technology fields.
■ Alanna Carrera, a student at Park Vista High School. She will attend the University of Central Florida and plans to pursue a career in the medical field involving neuroscience and research of diseases of the brain.
■ Aubrey Dale, a student at Santaluces High School. She plans to attend the University of Miami and wants to work in the medical field in cardiology and bring health care to those who need it and don’t have it.
■ Ruth Dore, a student at SouthTech Academy. She plans to study child psychology at Florida Atlantic University.
■ Kensky Lajeune, a student at SouthTech Academy. He plans to attend either Florida Atlantic University or the University of Florida. He wants to work in the medical field as a cardiologist.
■ Michelle LaPlante, a student at Atlantic High School. She plans to attend Florida State University and major in marketing and advertising.
■ Matthew Stewart, a student at South Tech Academy. He plans to pursue a career in commercial arts and graphic design and will attend Palm Beach State College and then transfer to Florida State University.
■ Edline Vilsaint, a student at Boynton Beach High School. She wants to work in nursing and then become a pharmacist. She plans to attend Florida Atlantic University.
