FHP identifies woman injured on I-95 ramp
BOYNTON BEACH — A 28-yearold woman was in “critical and stable condition” after being hit by a vehicle late Tuesday on the southbound Interstate 95 exit ramp to Gateway Boulevard in what Florida Highway Patrol authorities called a roadrage incident.
Authorities identified the woman as Erika Edwards but did not provide a place of residence.
They also said they have a potential suspect in the case and that as of Wednes- day afternoon, they considered it one of “aggravated battery with a motor vehicle.” Neither a suspect nor a vehicle were in custody.
The woman was allegedly intentionally hit by a vehicle at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. She was not in a vehicle at the time of the crash, though it is unclear how she ended up on the ramp. She was taken to Delray Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The driver fled the scene, according to authorities.
Authorities closed the ramp and part of the interstate for hours while they investigated. The road had reopened by 6 a.m.
Antoine Pernell Smith, 31, was fatally shot Feb. 8, 2017, in his car as he drove toward the southbound I-95 entrance ramp on Gateway Boulevard.
Boynton Beach police have not publicly mentioned road rage as a possible motive in Smith’s killing. However, the people believed to have shot Smith were suspected of shooting at a BMW on I-95 north of Lantana Road shortly after the killing.
