Inlet Grove’s new football coach faces big challenge

McKay, a graduate of Miami Killian High School and Florida A&M University, brings plenty of coaching experience to Inlet Grove.

The Hurricanes’ job will be his first as a head coach.

“This came earlier than I expected, but I just couldn’t turn down the opportunit­y,” he said.

McKay, who arrived in Riviera Beach three weeks ago, faces a big challenge in rebuilding an Inlet Grove program that has struggled recently. Benjamin guard makes 4A all-state team: Five of Palm Beach County’s top small schools players were named to the Florida Associatio­n of Basketball Coaches/ Source Hoops Class 3A and Class 4A Boys Basketball AllState teams Tuesday. Benjamin guard and AllArea Small Schools Player of the Year Ben Lubarsky was the lone selection to the 4A team.

T he Class 3A team included second-team selections Gethro Germinal of Jupiter Christian and Aytor Alberto of LakeWorth Christian; and third-team selections Brandon Brivio of Boca Raton Christian and Cody Forbes of Berean Christian.

Germinal, a junior guard, averaged 16 points and seven rebounds per game; Alberto, a senior guard, averaged 22 points and four assists; Brivio, a junior guard/forward, averaged 20 points and nine rebounds; and Forbes, a junior guard/forward, averaged 18 points and eight rebounds.

Players were selected based on in-person evaluation­s, a review of AllArea teams selected by state media, and recognitio­n from the FABC.
