Lake Worth officials living tattoos’ past

- LAKE WORTH

It appears our city commission wishes to be ‘’tattooed” with the stigma of being completely unaware and out of touch. Commissioner Scott Maxwell states, “In my humble opinion . ... Isn’t this what we’re trying to get away from?” (“Lake Worth takes first step in moratorium on tattoo shops downtown,” June 20)

I prefer to describe his opinion as out of date, out of touch and simply misinformed.

This new hotel will finally put our town onto a world stage of tourists, at which time, Lake and Lucerne avenues will be filled with folks looking for fun. Well-traveled individuals know that the “old” stigma of tattoos representing a bad element is a thing of the past.

If we are to truly be perceived as an artist community, let’s not begin discriminating based on the “type” of artists. I’m not suggesting a parlor on every corner but perhaps we should commit one of the new townhomes near the art center to an approved tattoo artist.

Seriously, people ... it’s 2018. Perhaps it’s time for Mayor [Pam] Triolo to plan a teambuilding exercise, and go as a group into the parlor in town and get their own tattoos with our logo, “Where the Tropics Begin.”

I will volunteer to go along and hold their hands. And I’m certain they could obtain a group discount. It’s time to overcome personal bias. MARK HORNE,
