Get school money from gun industry

-

Palm Beach County School Board got it wrong proposing a 1 percent tax increase on county property taxpayers. While it’s certainly important for our children to be safe at school and for our teachers to be paid a fair living wage, going to the taxpayers is the wrong solution.

We would be better served if you taxed the multibillion-dollar industry of weapons. It is a pretty bad testimony to our society that there is nowhere safe to be anymore thanks to this country’s obsession with guns. Tax every gun, every bump stock attachment to a gun, every bullet; better yet, anything to do with the sale of guns in our county.

After all, the gun industry and some of our well funded NRA politicians are the reason we are in this terrible situation.

More guns are not the answer, even in the schools. However, since there is little sanity over this issue and the School Board feels more money is what they need to protect the children and increase teachers pay, I respectfully request you do whatever can be done to tax this industry. They are the ones with the billions of dollars, so if our elected officials don’t have the guts to hit them financially, maybe you can.

This taxpayer will not support your recommended tax increase come November, and I suspect there will be many others who feel the same way. LINDA VALENTINE, PALM BEACH GARDENS
