RIVIERA BEACH — City police are investigating a shooting that left two people injured Sunday night, days after two people died in separate gunfire incidents.

A 25-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were shot while sitting inside a vehi- cle in front of a house on the 1200 block of West 28th Street. The victims were shot from a vehicle going east on West 28th Street, police said.

The shooting took place at about 8 p.m. and happened as police were “scaling back increased patrol operations” that began July 17, according to city spokeswoman Rose Anne Brown.

The increased patrols were in response to two fatal shoot- ings that took place in the area July 16 and 17. Brown did not say whether Sunday’s shoot- ing was connected to either of those shootings.

The woman attempted to drive herself to a hospital but crashed near President Barack Obama Highway and West 27th Street on the way. She was taken by Riviera Beach Fire Rescue with non-life-threatening injuries.

The injured man was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Cen- ter in West Palm Beach by a private vehicle and also sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police were alerted to Sunday’s shooting by ShotSpotter technology, which helps police determine the approximate spot where a weapon was fired.

Anyone with information is asked to call Riviera Beach police at 561-845-4123 or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 800-458TIPS (8477).
