WR Gordon’s status unclear, so Browns looking into Bryant

-

While Josh Gordon’s away, the Browns may launch Plan B with their wide receivers.

As they await clarity on Gordon’s cloudy situation, Cleveland general manager John Dorsey said Wednesday the team has discussed signing Dez Bryant, the former Dallas star released by the Cowboys in April.

Gordon is missing the start of training camp as part of his treatment to battle drug and alcohol addictions, and the team does not known when — or if — the 27-yearold will be back.

Dorsey said he “absolutely” expects Gordon to return in 2018.

In the meantime, the Browns have interest in Bryant, a three-time Pro Bowler and one of the game’s top playmakers since 2010.

“He’s a very talented player,” Dorsey said. “Have we had discussions about Dez Bryant? Yeah, that’s natural. You’re going to have discussions like that. Now, we’ll see what comes to fruition in the next couple days, but we’ve talked about it.”

Meantime, the Browns signed their top draft picks, quarterback Baker Mayfield and cornerback Denzel Ward, in time for today’s first practice.

Colts: Andrew Luck understands it will take time to prove his surgically repaired throwing shoulder is as good as he says it is. As Indianapolis reported to training camp Wednesday, its incumbent quarterback sounded as eager and antsy as he did when he arrived as the highly touted No. 1 overall draft pick and hand-picked successor to Peyton Manning in 2012.

“I’m nervous. It will be interesting to step on the field again and practice and there will be some times that I’ll scratch my head and say what the heck did I just do? What the heck is going on?,” Luck said,

Giants: Star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. showed another sign he is prepared to put aside his contract talks for now, reporting with fellow veterans for the opening day of training camp.

The 25-year-old Beckham will earn $8.5 million entering the fifth and final season of his rookie contract. If the Giants do not designate him as a franchise player, he’s eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

Bills: LeSean McCoy was among the players to report for the start of camp, team spokesman Derek Boyko said. McCoy’s status was unclear after he was accused on social media of playing a role in his ex-girlfriend being bloodied during a home invasion two weeks ago at a house the running back owns. No charges have been filed.

Jets: Cornerback Rashard Robinson was suspended for the first four games of the regular season by the NFL for violating its substance-abuse policy. Robinson was arrested and charged with drug possession last December.

Falcons: General manager Thomas Dimitroff and coach Dan Quinn, who have led the team to the playoffs the last two seasons, signed threeyear contract extensions.

Cowboys: Owner Jerry Jones doubled down on insisting that his players stand on the sidelines for the national anthem, saying he wouldn’t support anyone who chose to stay in the locker room.
