Atlantic has bye after three huge victories

Another week, another statement win for Atlantic High of Delray Beach, which completed the Palm Beach County top-tier trifecta by beating Palm Beach Central, Dwyer and Pahokee in consecutive weeks.

Pahokee gave the Eagles a run for their money, led by Deante Nelson, who hauled in two touchdown recep- tions and picked off Atlantic quarterback Kalani Ilimale- ota three times in a losing effort. The Eagles will rest up in Week 4 before another high-profile matchup in Week 5 against Park Vista.

In other action around the county, Cardinal Newman running back Chris D’or continued to establish himself as a premier running back with a 200-yard performance against Olympic Heights, as the Crusaders won convincingly 40-20. Cardinal Newman has now scored at least 40 points in each of its first three games.

Wellington edged Park Vista in an impressive bounce-back win follow- ing last week’s lopsided loss, while Dwyer won big over Glades Central. Top games this week: Wellington (2-1) at Palm Beach Central (2-1), Friday, 6 p.m.

There will be loads of talent on display in this matchup between district rivals. Akeem Dent and Renato Brown will lead Central against Mark-Ant- ony Richards and Welling- ton, who just beat a good Park Vista team. The Broncos offense has found its footing in recent weeks, dropping 48 points in a shutout of Miami-Fergu- son and 63 more in a win o ver Miami-Braddock.

The top-end recruits and added intrigue of a rivalry game makes this a marquee matchup in Week 4.

Palm Beach Gardens (3-0) at Seminole Ridge (2-0), Friday, 6 p.m.

Something has to give as two unbeatens will square off in a district matchup in Loxahatchee. The Gators, led by quarterback David Studstill, have one of the most explosive offenses in the county, and their defense has limited opponents to just 13 points in three contests this season. Seminole Ridge has been equally impressive on the defensive side of the ball, allowing only six points through two games. The Hawks will look to keep Studstill and company in check as the teams jockey for valuable district positioning.

Monsignor Pace (3-0) at American Heritage (2-0), Friday, 7 p.m. Monsignor Pace (Miami Gardens) enters Friday’s contest as the second-ranked team in the state in Class 4A, while American Heritage currently sits at No. 3 in the Class 3A AP rankings. The Stallions have a pair of solid wins under their belts this season and are looking to make a major statement by topping one of South Florida’s top teams.
