Who’s to blame for water on tarmac?

- JENSEN BEACH WELLINGTON

A recent news report showed 1 million bottles of fresh water sitting on an airplane runway in Puerto Rico. (“Water for Hurricane Maria victims left on hot tarmac at naval base,” Wednesday)

They were delivered there by FEMA and the shipment is still in the same place. The reporter said the water is no longer safe to drink.

My questions are: Why are they still sitting on the runway? Why wasn’t the water delivered to the people when they needed it? Was it the fault of poor planning by the government of Puerto Rico? Was it a failure of lack of coordination by the United States? HAROLD SUSSMAN, in the White House, instead of an intelligent woman. They really hate intelligent, qualified women like Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Elizabeth Warren.

Compare Pelosi, a 78-year-old grandmother, against Republican House Speakers Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay, Dennis Hastert, John Boehner and Paul Ryan. She is more intelligent, ethical, moral and works harder, with more backbone, than any macho Republican.

White males who voted for Trump are afraid of women, immigrants and the change that’s coming. They expected their privileged position to last forever. They love claiming they made America great. However, how much greater would America be if women, blacks and others had the same privileges?

If males are not entering colleges, maybe it’s because they’re not as intellectually qualified as women and their advantage is gone. ANTHONY FRIGO, only group in the world that has a specific U.N. agency that aims to preserve their “refugee” status. Why?

Since 1950, the U.S. (and the American taxpayers) have provided UNRWA with more than $6 billion. When is enough enough? This support has not resulted in bringing the situation any closer to resolution.

On the contrary, it absolved Palestinian “leaders” of the responsibility to provide health care, education and other basic services to their people. As to “terrorist hatred” — despite American taxpayer dollars being spent, hatred has already existed.

It is time for other nations, especially other Arab countries, to fund UNRWA and work toward a peaceful resolution of this protracted dispute.
