A Naples woman faces several charges more than three years after a mob of former President Donald Trump breached the U.S. Capitol and engaged in a violent riot that left at least two dead.

Lin Marie Carey, 56, was arrested Wednesday on felony and misdemeano­r charges related to her conduct during the breach of the U.S. Capitol.

On Jan. 6, 2021, after former President Donald Trump's reelection loss, a riot of his supporters, including Carey, stormed the U.S. Capito, authoritie­s say. The mob hoped to prevent Congress from counting electoral college votes and keep then-President-elect Joe Biden from power.

Carey is charged in a criminal complaint filed in federal court in the District of Columbia with felony obstructio­n of an official proceeding; a misdemeano­r offense of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; a misdemeano­r offense of disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; and a misdemeano­r offense of disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, parading, picketing, and demonstrat­ing in a Capitol building.

Russian court bars anti-Ukraine war hopeful from presidenti­al race

Russia's Supreme Court on Monday upheld a ruling barring liberal politician Boris Nadezhdin from running in the upcoming presidenti­al election.

Nadezhdin, a city council member in the town of Dolgoprudn­y near Moscow, was nominated by the Civic Initiative party to run in an election President Vladimir Putin is all but set to win. He has been vocal against the war in Ukraine, garnering support among opposition-minded Russians.

In a statement on social media, Nadezhdin said he would continue to appeal his case. in the Middle District of Florida in Fort Myers the same day, court records show.

She is at least the second Southwest Florida to face charges linked to the event.

Christophe­r Worrell, 52, of East Naples, will remain jailed in Washington, D.C., for the immediate future. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth announced the prison sentence in January. Worrell has appealed the 10-year sentence.

Nadezhdin's backer, the Civic Initiative party, doesn't have representa­tives in the parliament. Russian election law requires such candidates to attain at least 100,000 signatures to qualify to run for the presidency. Nadezhdin secured 105,000 signatures after his call for a halt to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine became a key part of his campaign.

However, on Feb. 21, Russia's Central Election Commission declared more than 9,000 of the signatures submitted by Nadezhdin's campaign invalid – enough to disqualify him from the race. 2 men are dead after small plane crashes near home in Minnesota

AFTON, Minn. – Investigat­ors are trying to determine what caused a small plane to crash near a home in Minnesota, killing both people on board.

The accident happened just before 9:45 a.m. Saturday in Afton, a town of about 2,900 residents 30 miles east of Minneapoli­s. The Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that it received several calls reporting what sounded like an explosion.

Responders found the plane engulfed in flames in the yard of a home, near the attached garage, the sheriff 's office said.

No one on the ground was hurt. investigat­ors she learned through social media groups that buses were being organized to go to Washington, D.C., for the Trump rally.

She told authoritie­s she knew four or five other people on the bus through a church group. Carey said there were approximat­ely 95 people spread between both buses.

Court records on Friday afternoon displayed her conditions of release, but a bond amount wasn't immediatel­y available.

In 37 months, more than 1,313 men and women have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including more than 469 individual­s charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcemen­t, which is a felony. The investigat­ion remains ongoing.

Police in Belgium arrest 4 people suspected of planning attack

BRUSSELS – Police in Belgium have arrested four people suspected of plotting an attack against a concert hall in Brussels, the federal prosecutor's office said Monday.

The adult arrested has been charged with “participat­ion in the activities of a terrorist group” with the aim of committing an attack, the office said. Three underage individual­s also were arrested.

“According to the initial findings of (the) investigat­ion, it appears that a Brussels concert hall was specifical­ly targeted, with an attack planned in a few weeks' time,” the office said.
