Man, 46, to face murder charge in cousin’s death

WEST PALM BEACH — Police in Georgia have arrested a 46-year-old man in connection to a 2023 West Palm Beach homicide in which the victim’s body was dumped on the side of the road.

Gary Tromane Everett will face a charge of second-degree murder with a firearm in the shooting death of Devore Howard, 37, of Lake Park once he is extradited to Palm Beach County from the Baldwin County, Georgia, Jail.

Officers arrested him on Feb. 21 at his apartment in Milledgevi­lle, about 100 miles southeast of Atlanta and about 550 miles from where officers found Howard, according to a report from West Palm Beach police on Wednesday, March 6.

Investigat­ors say Everett, a former Palm Beach County resident, shot and killed Howard on Oct. 10, 2023, in Howard’s work vehicle. According to a police report, a person called 911 at about 3:30 a.m. and reported seeing someone dragging a body from a car near 45th Street and Military Trail.

Officers found Howard in the vehicle and drove him to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he died.

Everett reportedly flagged down a Riviera Beach police officer that morning at Blue Heron Boulevard and Congress Avenue and reported that his cousin had been shot at Gramercy Park in suburban West Palm Beach.

Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office investigat­ors went to the park and determined that no shooting occurred there. Further investigat­ion revealed Everett shot Howard and that the murder took place inside a car, police said.

The county Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Howard died from by a single gunshot to the head. Investigat­ors also determined that a large sum of cash was taken from him.

Everett did not provide informatio­n on how Howard was shot or why he had had Howard’s car and blood all over him.
