Fitness firm founded by ex-Navy Seal opens in Delray
DELRAY BEACH – Leading fitness company TRX is celebrating its grand opening in its new location in Delray Beach.
TRX, which specializes in fitnessstrap strength training systems, pulled up its California roots last year to make a cross-country relocation of its global headquarters to 1110 S. Federal Highway in Delray Beach.
The company’s workout facilities are at the same location, where it plans to also host training summits and build a film studio for live and on-demand fitness classes.
The company had been in California since its founding in 2004 but is eager for a new start and “dramatic revitalization” after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2022, according to a news release.
Its most recent headquarters location was in San Francisco.
What is TRX?
Retired Navy SEAL Randy Hetrick started TRX as a way to stay fit while stationed in areas where traditional gym equipment was not available. The name stands for Total Resistance Exercise.
Hetrick sold his controlling interest in the company in 2019, but bought it out of bankruptcy for $8.4 million with private equity investment firm JFXD Capital, led by one-time Wall Street executive Jack Daly, who will serve as CEO of the company.
Florida’s population growth is attractive to companies
Florida has been flush with new residents after the COVID-19 pandemic opened the door to enhanced workfrom-home policies and people left their confines in the Northeast for warmer climes. A lack of state income tax adds to Florida’s allure.
“TRX was attracted to the quality of life in Florida and the area’s focus on health, wellness, and happiness,” the company said in response last year to a question about whether the pandemicdriven migration to Florida played a role in its move from California.
“The vibrant business community along with local technology and fitness expertise made it a very appealing location for the new headquarters.”
When is TRX opening its new location in Delray Beach?
TRX is hosting a grand opening today beginning at 8 a.m.
There will be tours of the 12,000 square feet of office and gym space, the filming studio and other amenities.
Known for its yellow and black straps, the TRX suspension training system has expanded with other products that can complete a home gym, such as kettlebells and weighted vests.
It also offers subscriptions to online video training programs.
