Education Foundation prepares for 2nd 5K fundraiser
ROYERSFORD>> The Spring-Ford Area School District is hosting a fun event that will also raise money for a great cause.
The second 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run will help raise money to benefit the SpringFord Area High School Senior Impact Awards.
According to Erin G. Crew, school and community engagement consultant, Dr. Ally Roche, SFASD assistant superintendent, spearheaded the run last year and had great success with it. Roche wanted to build a fundraiser specifically to support the Senior Impact Awards rather than rely on district funds for the awards.
The Spring-Ford Senior Impact Awards began in 2006. For these awards, the Spring-Ford Area School District has honored individuals nominated by graduating seniors who have made an impact on their educational experience. An awards dinner is hosted each spring for the nominees and the seniors who nominated them to celebrate how each individual has impacted his/her life.
This year’s Senior Impact Awards will be held on April 16 and will honor nearly 100
SFASD staff members, including teachers, coaches, principals, guidance counselors, etc.
“Last year we had about 250 participants (for the 5K Run/Walk), and as of today, we have exceeded that number and hope to have about 300 this year,” Crew said in an interview Wednesday. “We’ve made slight changes this year, including more goodie bag items, some raffles and a fun DIY photo area with props and a Spring-Ford backdrop.”
The goodie bags, which
are reusable, will be filled with snacks, coupons and giveaways from some of the sponsors. The photo area will be in front of the Spring-Ford backdrop, and there will be props to use for the pictures. The staff photographer will be there to take pictures, or participants can take selfies. Everyone registered to run will be automatically registered into the gift raffle, which includes some gift cards and gift bags.
“We have a few schools participating as teams, one used the 5k as their culminating Couch to 5K event, and quite a few families, as well as SFASD staff and board members,” Crew said.
The path that is used by both runners and walkers in the event follows the Spring-Ford High School Cross Country path, which covers asphalt, grass and some packed stone/dirt.
The event will be held on Friday, April 24, at the Spring-Ford Area High School, 350 South Lewis Road, Royersford. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.; Kids Fun Run begins at 6:15 p.m.; and the 5K Run/ Walk begins at 6:30 p.m.
The fees to participate are as follows: Students registering for the 5K, $20; Adults, $27; Kids Fun Run, $11. Register online at www.pretzelcitysports.com or at www.spring-ford.net.
SFEF is seeking business sponsors for the 5K Run/ Walk. Food and drink donations are also welcome.

The education foundation’s main goal is to secure resources from individuals, corporations, community organizations and foundations to be distributed in support of programs for the benefit of the students and residents in the Spring-Ford Area School District. These resources will be used in a generally charitable way to enhance the quality of the SpringFord Area School District community.
