Unbeaten OJR outlasts Phoenixville
Four Owen J. Roberts pitchers combined on the Pioneer Athletic Conference victory over Phoenixville that allowed the Wildcats (4-0, 4-0) to stay unbeaten with an 1815 victory in the rain and cold weather at Doc Kennedy Field on April 8.
TheWildcats punched out 11 hits and took advantage of nine walks and five Phoenixville errors in the verdict. Owen J. Roberts scored three runs in the first inning, three in the third and five in the fifth before putting up seven more in the top of the seventh. Phoenixville scored three in the third, three in the fifth, one in the sixth and made the game real tight with an eight-spot in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Left-hander Corey Hennessey, Dawson Stuart, Eric Keppel and Alex Condello saw mound duty for Owen J. Roberts. Brett Thomas and Jason Waltman hurled for the Phantoms (2-2, 3-2). The four OJR pitchers issued 19 walks to the Phantoms while striking out four. Phoenixville’s pitchers gave up nine walks with eight strikeouts. Phoenixville ended the contest with seven hits.
Owen J. Roberts jumped out to its 3-0 lead with two outs in the first inning. Riley McGinley (three hits, three runs, one RBI) singled for the first hit of the game and he scored on Joe Zgleszewski’s triple to right field. Condello followed with a two-run home run over the right field fence. Condello ended the game 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and three runs scored.
Keppel had two hits, one of thema bases-clearing double to center field with two outs in the third, four RBIs and two runs scored. Nate Tomlin poked a two-run double with two runs scored. CJ Weaver had a single and then four straight walks with three runs scored. Blake McCourt scored twice with one RBI.
