April 6 Baseball

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 15, POPE JOHN PAUL II 5 >> Nate Yoder homered and drove in a game-high five runs while Liam Grande knocked in three as Periomen Valley used a five-run sixth inning and five-run seventh to put away PJP in a PAC10 contest.

Sean Moriarity chipped in with three hits along with Yoder and John Turner. Grande picked up the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven.

Kevin Shields took the loss for PJP. PJ Heller had three hits for the Golden Panthers.

Girls Lacrosse

SOUTHERN LEHIGH 12, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 6 >> Christie Balestra finished the game with a hat trick, but it wasn’t enough to put the Vikings past Southern Lehigh.

Balestra also added two assists for PV (0-2, 1-3) while Emma Britton, Anna Koniencki and Abby Bergman each scored once. Harley Barrett made 16 saves in goal.

Boys Lacrosse

LOWER MERION 8, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 4 >> A slow start along with 26 offensive turnovers put the Vikings in a hole they couldn’t overcome as they suffered a non-league loss to Lower Merion.

Ben Minardi (two assists), Shawn Coulter, Connor Dee and Matt Baker each tallied one goal for PV (3-2, 4-3). Kevin Momade 11 saves in net.

April 4 Boys Lacrosse

OWEN J. ROBERTS 7, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 4 >> Ben Minardi scored two goals in the Vikings’ PAC-10 loss to the Wildcats. Shawn Coulter and Matt Baker each scored one goal.

Kevin Mo made 17 saves in goal. Nick Scienna and Nick Marren each had an assist.

Perkiomen Valley came out of the gates strong, as the Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead eight minutes in, spearhead by two unassisted goals by Minardi.

Austin Delgatto (one assist) scored a game-high four goals for Owen J. Roberts.

Track & Field

COLONIAL RELAYS>> SpringFord posted a combined seven first-place finishes in the relay meet at Plymouth-Whitemarsh.

On the track, the Rams got a first their distance medley relay of Drew Rheaume, Chris Fennimore and Pat and Paul Power, the quartet clocking a 10:57.95. Spring-Ford’s shuttle hurdles relay team of Bryan and Brandon Leacraft, Stephen Chapman and Jon Seiler placed second with a time of 1:15.15.

In the field, Tim Rudderow and Brandon Leacraft won the discus relay with a combined throw of 239-10. Sam Sykes and Jon Seiler combined on a second-place effort of 10-6 in the high jump relay while Rudderow and Zach Dorsey took third in the shot put relay at 87-8.

On the girls’ side, Aleigha Johnson and Samantha Watkin won the high jump relay with a combined height of 9-4. The Rams’ distanceme­dley relay team of Anna Poet, Sarah Egleston, Courtney Marte and Gabriella Bamford placed second at 13:29.72.

College Baseball

BEARSSPLIT>> Ursinus went 1-1 in its Centennial Conference doublehead­er against the Washington Shoremen. Solid pitching gave the Bears (2-2, 12-4) a 4-0 victory in the opener, and in game two, Washington scored three runs through the sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-4 win.

In game one, junior righthande­r Sean Pisik went the distance, allowing just five hits while striking out seven to improve to 3-0 on the year. Ursinus provided him with plenty of offense as Alex Campbell doubled home Christoper Jablonski in the first inning.

Washington went ahead 4-0 in the nightcap after three innings. The Bears scored once in the fifth and once again in the eighth on an RBI fielder’s choice by senior pinch hitter James Hoff (Spring-Ford) that scored C.J. Diana.

April 2 Boys Tennis

PHOENIXVIL­LE KIWANIS INVITATION­AL >> Phoenixvil­le placed third out of three teams at the annual twoday indoor tennis tournament played at the Legacy Tennis Center in Philadelph­ia. Parkland won the team title with 21 points, followed by North Penn with 13 and Phoenixvil­le with seven. West Chester East did not enter this year.

On opening day, in the Singles Division, Phoenixvil­le’s Luke Lombardi fell to North Penn’s Frank Yanni 6-0, 6-0. The Phantoms’ Nick Vaile was beaten by Parkland’s Nate Lyman 6-1, 6-0. In the preliminar­y round, Phoenixvil­le’s Mike Pinelli was stopped by North Penn’s Jason Wherry 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, Phoenixvil­le’s tandem of Austin Starczewsk­i/Graham Light drew a first-round bye and then outlasted Parkland’s Peter Son/Alex Son 6-7, 6-4, 11-9 (super tiebreaker) in the quarterfin­als. The Phoenixvil­le duo was then stopped by Parkland’s Krishna Unjia/Nick Hawk in the semifinals, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-2 (su- per tiebreaker).

Phoenixvil­le’s team of Dave Nascari/Mike Ellis opened with a three-set win over Parkland’s Jesse Nance/Nate Rice 6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-6. The Phantoms followed that up with a 6-1, 7-6 win against North Penn’s Kyle Almeida/AndrewPei to advance to the semifinals. There, they were beaten by Parkland’s AlexWu/Anessh Kapoor 6-1, 6-4, the eventual champions.

Starczewsk­i/Light then defeated Nascari/Ellis 7-5, 6-1 in the third-place-match.

Another Phoenixvil­le doubles team of Chris Hytha/Liam Bonner lost in the first round to North Penn’s Neil Goh/Tyler Matyszczak 7-5, 6-4.

In consolatio­n singles, Phoenixvil­le’s Nick Vaile won an 8-2 decision over Parkland’s Sujay Ratkumar before bowing to North Penn’s Jason Wherry 8-2. Liam Bonner was topped by Wherry 8-1. Mike Pinelli was beaten by North Penn’s Jorge Lopez-Palacios 8-6. Luke Lombardi won his first match 8-4 over North Penn’s Neil Goh before being halted by Lopez-Palacios 8-1.

In consolatio­n doubles, Phoenixvil­le’s Joe Vaile/ Eric Nascari was beaten by North Penn’s Corway Chad/ Alex Sweeney 8-5. Chris Hytha/Conlon Mahar were stopped by North Penn’s Ryan Cox/Noah Kwortnick 8-3.

Baseball

PHOENIXVIL­LE 1, MARPLE NEWTOWN 0 >> Three Phoenixvil­le pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout, and the Phantoms made a firstinnin­g run stand up for a non-league victory over the Tigers at Doc Kennedy Field.

Michael Anthony, Zach Masalski and Jason Waltman combined on the mound effort for the shutout with 10 strikeouts and four walks. Anthony pitched the first two frames with four strikeouts and three walks but allowed no hits and no runs for the win. Masalski, a sophomore, pitched themiddle two innings, giving up three hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Waltman, who started the game as the catcher, finished the last three innings and allowed one hit with four strikeouts and no walks.

Zach Gallow doubled to right-center field with two outs in the first inning and scored on Owen Goryl’s single to left field to account for the lone run of the game.

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 6, SOUDERTON 5>> Nick Mikesic (two RBIs) and Andrew Bergman (2-for-4) doubled, and Adam Gaines homered as part of a 3-for-3 effort that helped the Vikings edge the Big Red in non-league action.

Girls Lacrosse

SPRING-FORD 13, HENDERSON 12 >> The four-goal outings of Camryn Jones and Courtney Veisbergs keyed the Rams in their close nonleague victory over theWar- riors.

Anja Sweeney and Casey Trimbur chipped in with two goals apiece while Brianna Cirino rounded out the S-F scoring. Kat Connelly made four assists, and goalie Sam Walters had 11 saves.

April 1

Track & Field

PERKIOMEN VALLEY SWEEPS >> Perkiomen Valley swept the double dual PAC-10 track & field meet at Pope John Paul II’s home. The PV boys beat Owen J.l Roberts, 101-49, and PJP, 121-29, to remain undefeated in the PAC-10 at 3-0.

The Perk Valley girls held off OJR, 87-63, and defeated PJP, 127-23. The Viking girls also remained undefeated at 3-0 in the PAC-10.

PV senior Cole Gehman won the boys 300 hurdles in 40.5 to start the team rolling. Gehman also added a win in the 110 hurdles in 15.96. The Vikings’ Morgan Dickerman then anchored the PV girls to a win in the 4x800 relay at 10:32. Matt Town anchored the PV boys to a win in the 4x800 at 8:39. PV junior Cheyenne Churchvill­e kicked off the sprint event for the Viking girls, easily winning the 100 at 12.65.

PV’s Michael Holland, who is headed to St. Francis on a Division I football scholarshi­p, won the boys 100 at 11.46. Annie Glodek won the 1,600 (5:34.1). PV’s Joseph Adighibe held off Holland to win the 200 at 22.96. PV’s Ray Friend won the boys 3,200 at 10:10.9, hodking off teammate Frankie MacGregor and OJR’s Abe van Helmond.

Softball

BOYERTOWN 13, PHOENIXVIL­LE 3 >> Visiting Boyertown pounded out 13 hits and capitalize­d on five Phoenixvil­le errors to produce the Bears’ first victory of the season in six innings.

The Bears scored three runs in the first inning, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and six in the sixth. The Phantoms tallied one in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Emily Bradley pitched the first four innings for the Bears to record the victory with relief from Lauren Waller. Bradley surrendere­d two hits and one unearned run with five strikeouts and no walks. Jess Eldridge pitched 5.2 innings for Phoenixvil­le in taking the loss with help from Olivia Teter. Eldridge struck out four and walked one. Nine of runs she allowed were unearned, including all six runs in the sixth inning.

Phoenixvil­le closed out the game with seven hits. Susan Duncan went 2-for-2 with a walk and one RBI. The other RBI belonged to Taylor Crown. Olivia Teter scored the first Phantom run, and Tiler Rennard and Liberty Allain had the other runs scored. The Phantoms’ other hits were by Olivia Teter, Kelly Knapp, Crown, Tiler Rennard and Allain.

The Phantoms stranded nine baserunner­s, leaving the bases loaded three times.

Baseball

BOYERTOWN 8, PHOENIXVIL­LE 7 >> The Bears built a big early lead then weathered a late rally the Phantoms to come awaywith the PAC-10 triumph at Bear Stadium. Boyertown led 7-0 after four innings, but Phoenixvil­le came back with three in the fifth and four in the sixth tomake it close.

Brett Arney and Michael Anthony each drove in two runs for the Phantoms. Owen Goryl went 3-for-4 with one RBI, and Zach Gallow had two hits and one RBI. Luke LeBeau finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Brett Thomas and Matt Osisek-Byrne each pitched three innings for the locals.

Girls Lacrosse

PHOENIXVIL­LE 18, POTTSTOWN 6 >> Zoe Bullotta poured in seven goals to lead the Phantoms over the Trojans in a PAC-10 game.

Phoenixvil­le also got four-goal outings from T.J. Jefferis and Carolyn Groener while Tara Gilroy, Kylie Crovetti and Natalie Rubino added solo tallies.

Boys Lacrosse

SPRING-FORD 17, PHOENIXVIL­LE 1 >> Josh Gliva’s fivegoal showing headed potent offense by Spring-Ford in its PAC-10 victory over the Phantoms. The Rams also got two goals apiece from Ray Orcutt, Zach Hare, Jarred Marenger and Zach Haviland along with single goals from four other players, among them Kevin Todd (three assists). Jack Leven had Phoenixvil­le’s lone point.

Boys Track & Field

PHOENIXVIL­LE 81, UPPER PERKIOMEN6­3>> Andy Tran and Eric Teunissen each won two individual events to key the Phantoms’ PAC10 victory over the Indians. Tran dominated the hurdles, winning the 300 intermedia­tes (43.8) and 110 highs (16.3) while Teunissen topped the high jump (5-4) and pole vault (10-0).

Dylan Smiley won the 1,600 (4:49.6) while Michael Stokes won the 400 (54.8). Sean McGinnis finished first in the 800 (2:11.3), and Liam Darcy placed first in the 3,200 (11:14.2). David Rosati copped the shot put (39-11 ¼).

In the other portion of the meet, Pottstown defeated Phoenixvil­le, 79-71.

Girls Track & Field

PHOENIXVIL­LE SWEEPS >> Fiona Halloran and Emma Dolan each won two individual events to key the Phantoms’ PAC-10 win over the Indians. Halloran got her firsts in the 1,600 (5:56.45) and 3,200 (13:23.5) while Dolan topped the shot put (30-8) and javelin (112-10).

The Phantoms won both ends of the double dual by defeating Pottstown, 104-45.

Also winning against UP were Johnnie Cunningham in the 300 hurdles (53.3), Taylor Reed in the 100 (13.3), Bridget Walt in the 400 (1:02.9), Jillian Rotman in the 200 (28.1) and Susi Shier in the pole vault (9-0). Against Pottstown, Rachel Bierly won the 100 hurdles (18.5) and Allysssa Andrews took the 800 (2:42.6).
