Consignment shop owner charged with theft, assault

-

SPRING CITY >> Police have charged a man after he allegedly threatened and assaulted a woman with whom he had been doing business.

Edilio DiLello, 66, of Schwenksville, has been charged after police say he destroyed a woman’s property and threatened and assaulted her.

The victim met with police in June and stated that she had been at The Trading Post in Spring City where she entered into an agreement of consignment with the owner, whom she identified as DiLello, according to the affidavit of probable cause. The victim was looking to sell various antiques and collectibles and did not relinquish ownership rights to the property, police said.

The victim told police that she went to the business to collect items that were not sold through the agreement and indicated

that DiLello owed her $1,000 for items that were sold through their agreement. When she requested her money, DiLello re- fused to pay her, the victim said.

When she requested her items, DiLello became agitated and threw and smashed an antique chandelier. He threw the box down the stairs and into a trash receptacle, police said.

He then allegedly shoved her several times until she was out of the building and then attempted to crush her with an overhead garage door, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Awitness provided police with the same account and the victim gave police a list of items valuing $2,065 that were not returned to her on that date.

A family member of the victim later returned to the store to get the items and determined that items were still missing. The total value of the missing items was $2,065 and an estimate of damage to the chandelier totaled $1,296.

The victim told police that she was also threatened by DiLello and that he attempted to extort her by stating he would reveal personal information about her to her boyfriend if she didn’t buy DiLello a com- pany car, police said.

DiLello is facing charges of theft, receiving stolen property, criminalmischief, simple assault and harassment. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Leonard J. Brown on Oct. 13. Bail was set at $5,000 unsecured.
