Big games from Perrotto, Graham give Lady Phantoms key victories

Girls Soccer

Gabrielle Perrotto had a hat trick while Sophia Kopko and Madison Weinburg each registered assists as the Phantoms came away with the PAC victory on Sept. 12.

Upper Perk received goals for Kayleigh Dunning and Jessie Fisher.

Dina Corraro made one save in the win for Phoenixvil­le (3-1). Hannah Landis made four saves for Upper Perk (2-2-1).

Kilee McCloud’s goal at 9:36 during the second overtime put an end to an elongated Pioneer Athletic Conference match between the Wildcats and the Vikings on Sept. 12.

McCloud’s score came off a corner kick to break open the scoreless tilt. OJR registered 10 shots on goal and nine corners with none more important than the final try. Sophie Bono had three saves in the shutout while Leslie Adams finished with six saves for PV.

A two-goal second half for the Rams was enough for the team to come out victorious in a thrilling league matchup on Sept. 14.

Libby Andrews and Elle Kershner finished with goals for the Rams with Laura Fazzini adding an assist.

Boyertown’s goal was scored by MaddyMonka, assisted by Kaleigh Gallagher.

Amanda Byrd made three saves in the win for SF. Dakota Graham had a role in all four Phantomgoa­ls scoring twice and assisting twice in a PAC Frontier Division win on Sept. 14.

Graham set up goals for Julia Brown and Gabrielle Perrotto as Phoenixvil­le led 3-0 at the half. Goalkeeper­s Dina Corraro and Yadira Cruz combined for the three-save shutout.

Pottsgrove keeper Erin Carroll made five saves.

Kayla Mesaros registered a hat trick as the Golden Panthers used a three-goal second half to come away with the league win on Sept. 14.

Monica Rapchinski added a goal while Elizabeth Kropp added two assists.

Mackenzie Gebhardt scored Upper Perkiomen’s lone tally. Taylor Kearney added an assist.

ColleenMor­tonmade five saves in the win for PJP. Hannah Landis made six saves for UP. The Vikings raced out to a 5-0 halftime lead before cruising to the eight-goal victory in league play on Sept. 14.

Sydney Marasco and Samantha Penny each finished with two goals in the win. Kelsey Marino, Allison Cappelli, Karlee Ruth and Sophie Haas each tallied a goal for PV, which saw good goalkeepin­g from Leslie Adams and Kristen O’Donnell.

Boys Soccer

Andrew Daubenspec­k posted his third shutout of the season in the Vikings’ win over Norristown on Sept. 14.

Daubenspec­k finished with four saves while Max Chamorro finished with a goal and an assist. Sebastian Leyes scored the game’s opening goal while AJ Hansen had an assist on Max Chamorro’s clincher in the 76th minute. John Gonzales made 11 saves for Norristown. Mike Hyduke scored off a corner kick with 21 minutes remaining to give the Rams a PAC (Liberty Division) win over the Bears on Sept. 14.

Chase Parr was credited with the assist on Hyduke’s tally. Kyle Allan made six saves in the Spring-Ford nets to preserve the shutout, with Connor McKeown making five stops for Boyertown.

Phil Meszaros registered four points and Clay Kopko scored his first varsity goal in the Phantoms’ shutout of the Tribe.

Meszaros scored twice and added two helpers while Andre Souza and Arun Sankar each scored twice. Other goals came from Colin Hook and Patricio Perez while assists were credited to Greg Flamma (two), Tyler Siefer, JT Stephens, Jake Perillo and Jair Ibarra. Mitchell Coll made three saves in goal.

Field hockey

Erin Wilson and Caroline Todd connected for a pair of goals to lead the Rams past theVikings in PAC play on Sept. 13.

Wilson scored of a feed from Todd 14 minutes in, then returned the favor 13 minutes later to take a two-goal lead. MaryPatMcK­enna scored with an assist from Clare Kennedy late in the second half to give Spring-Ford all the cushion it needed. Lexi Ciano (two saves) and Kristen Grabe (four saves) combined for the shutout.

Liz Tarbet, Alysa Dunne, Kelly Battinger and AriannaMar­tina each scored their first varsity goals in the Vikings PAC rout of the Eagles on Sept. 14.

Tarbet, TaylorHamm­and Bryn Marcavage each finished with a pair of goals while assists were credited to Abigail Bergman, Gabby Spurlock, Alina Koniencki, Gabby Martina, Katie Wuerstle and Danielle Hamm. Norristown keeper Basiman Curry made 10 saves.

Boys cross country

JakeMcKenn­a led the Rams’ near sweep of the Top 10 in their PAC victory over the Warriors.

McKenna finished first in 17:09 as Spring-Ford placed the first nine runners in the field, helped by a second from Zach Smith (17:15) and third from Shane Ainscoe (17:17). Nick DeFilippis was Methacton’s leading runner, 10th in 18:09.

Christian Schaaf and ConnorWilc­husky were literally a 1-2 punch for the Phantoms, finishing in that order to key their team’s PAC victory over the Golden Panthers.

Schaaf took individual race honors with an 18:26 clocking, and Wilchusky followed in 18:39 for a Phoenixvil­le unit that placed its first five runners in the top seven. J.P. Schiele, third in 18:51, was PJP’s top finisher.

Dominic DeRafelo, Josh Endy and ChristianM­cComb gave the Bears a 1-2-3 finish in their PAC victory over the Vikings.

DeRafelo lead the way with his 17:34, Endy followed at 17:40 and McComb crossed the line in 17:52. Alex Wagner, PV’s top finisher in fourth with a 17:59, was the only other runner to run a sub-18minute time on the PV course.

Girls cross country

The Rams swept the first five spots in the finishing order for an easy victory in their PAC match with the Warriors.

Gabriella Bamford got overall race honors for Spring-Ford with a 20:53 run, while teammatesE­mily Smith, Bella Marchini, Rachel Murphy and Sydney Galster followed with identical 21:37 clockings. Carly Ukalovic placed sixth in 22:13 to finish as Methacton’s leading runner.

Natalee Serwatka claimed individual race honors for the Phantoms, who took the first five spots on the way to victory over the Golden Panthers in their PAC meet.

Serwatka finished in 23:08, with teammates Victoria Wright (23:27) andMeg Grimshaw (23:34) a respective second and third. Caroline Tuaffone was PJP’s first runner across the line, placing sixth in 25:16.

Annie Glodek was the runaway race winner, heading the Vikings’ PAC victory over the Bears.

Glodek turned in the meet’s lone sub-20 minute finish, covering her home course in 19;24. Boyertown’s Gillian Kasitz took second in 20:14.

Boys Golf

Dallen Hall carded a 3-over 39 to pace the Vikings past the Tribe in a PAC match at Raven’s Claw Golf Club on Sept. 12.

Eric Martin followed with a 42 while Andrew Burkhardt (43), Thomas Lombardo (43) and Andrew Giorgi (44) rounded out the PV scorecard. Anthony Boyle shot a team low 40 for Upper Perk.

Chase Armor and Jack Wilson both shared low-man honors with a one-over 37 at Macoby Run’s Par-36 course on Sept. 14.

Connor Boham and Thomas Freed shot a 39 with Jon Lumley shooting a 41 for the Rams. Anthony Boyle was low-man for UP, shooting a 40.

Though Kyle Green garnered low-man honors for the Bears, the Vikings rode a tighter pack to victory in this PAC meet on Hickory Valley’s Ambassador Course on Sept. 13.

Green’s 38 was one stroke better than PV low scorer Dallen Hall’s 39. But the Vikes were able to card the next four scores behind Green, their fifth man (Andrew Burkhardt 46) tying Boyertown’s number-two finisher Wyatt Bennett.

Girls Golf

Liddie McCook scored a low-round 37 while Anisha Santi and Megan Ostertag both shot 45 to lift the Cougars over the Vikings in amatch at Gilbertsvi­lle Golf Club on Sept. 14.

Katie Pupillo shot a 46 for PV; Alyssa Washeleski shot a 47.

Grace Simenson shot a 39 to secure low-score honors and lead the Phantoms past the Bears at Twin Ponds on Sept. 13.

Savanna Haas was low for Boyertown with a 43.

Girls Tennis

Meredith Lee and Elaina Lee produced straight set victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respective­ly, as the Wildcats topped the Vikings in league play.

Lee didn’t drop a game in her 6-0, 6-0 defeat of PV’s Tasminr Morris while Elaina Lee had no trouble with PV’s Allison Newman, topping her 6-0, 6-2.

The doubles duo of JenWeston and Erica Gratton shined for OJR, defeating PV’s Meghan Sahasrabud­dhe and Brooke Ozere 6-0, 6-0.

PV’s Sana Kewalraman­i and Vee Mishra picked up the team’s only win in second doubles.

Julia Gumieniak had the Phantoms’ best showing in a non-conference loss against the Bears.

Gumieniak, Phoenixvil­le’s No. 1 singles, beat Emma Sass 0-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-5 for her team’s lone win. The doubles pair of Susan Duncan/AmandaMona­chelli lost 6-2, 6-2 to Dagny Tepper/Caroline Bucnher.

The Rams dropped just two games throughout the lineup as they rolled the Falcons in their PAC match on Sept. 13.

Tori Alexander (first) and Kathryn Alvarez (second) shut out their singles opponents, as did the doubles teams of Sonal Tyagi/Bianca Caresosa (second) and Maddy Morris/Lauren Ostermann (fourth).

Girls volleyball

The Phantoms hung tight, but weren’t able to overcome the Eagles in a non-conference meet on Sept. 12.

Romina Broglia led Phoenixvil­le with 12 kills and 15 digs while Keara Hennessey had eight aces and five blocks. Phoenixvil­le won the first set 25-17, but lost the following two by scores of 25-16 and 25-21. The Phantoms pulled even with a 25-18 win but then lost 15-11 in the final game. Alex Poloway had six aces, seven kills and 11 digs while Tessa Lochetto posted 29 digs.

The Golden Panthers got plenty of support in their sweep of the Rams. Six players compiled significan­t statistics in PJP’s 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 run on Sept. 13.

Alana Pergine had 11 kills, Mary Kate Mooney seven and Myah Cordrey five kills to go with nine services points. Hayley Wusinich had 14 assists, 11 digs and nine services points, Alyssa Cianciulli added 14 digs and four aces, and Shelby Horgan chipped in with nine digs, 12 services points and four aces.

Kayla Grammersto­rf and Keara Hennessey were the leaders for the Phantoms in their PACmatch with the Vikings on Sept. 13. Upper Merion swept the contest by set scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-9.

Kayla Grammersto­rf made six blocks, and Hennessey chipped in with eight digs and three blocks.
