Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30to 9p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowermen­t and constructi­ve criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/ offer input on material read. Writers wishing to have their work critiqued should submit to Eric before each meeting. A free workshop, “Conquer the SAT and ACT”, on Thursday, Sept. 22from 6:30to 7:45p.m. Andre Kiss of Critical Point Test Prep will be the presenter. This workshop will give high school students and parents a comprehens­ive outline of SAT and ACT preparatio­n, which includes not only the psychology and physiology of successful test prep, but four useful strategies for both tests. Attendees will be given a diagnostic test to test their performanc­e before learning the strategies, and a follow-up test to see what they’ve learned. This event is free and open to the public. “Anything Goes: The Music of Cole Porter” will be presented by singer Dave DeLuca on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 7p.m.. Who doesn’t love a Cole Porter tune? “I Get a Kick Out Of You”, “Night and Day”, “In The Still Of The Night”, “Too Darn Hot”, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” - songs like these have stood the test of time to enter the popular repertoire as standards of the American songbook. A new exhibit, “Smoke, Fire and Bravery-- A History of Phoenixvil­le’s Fire Companies” is now open and runs through November at Historical Society of the Phoenixvil­le Area, 204 Church St. Phoenixvil­le. It features photograph­s, documents and artifacts including many from the collection of Phoenixvil­le Hose Hook & Ladder Company No. 1, that have never been seen by the general public. The event runs on Thursday Sept. 22from 6to10 p.m., Friday Sept. 23from 6to 10p.m., Sunday Sept. 24 from 1-10p.m., and Sunday Sept. /25 from 1to 5p.m. The midway is provided by AEB Amusements out of Easton, PA. Wristbands and tickets are available for purchase at the event. Stage entertainm­ent, raffles, vendors, food, games, rides, and fun can be found all weekend long. The event benefits the Get Well Gabby Foundation with a mission to help children diagnosed with cancer.
