Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30to 9p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowerment and constructive criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/ offer input on material read. Writers wishing to have their work critiqued should submit to Eric before each meeting. The Functional Sculpture of Wharton Esherick: Phoenixville Public Library will host a free lecture, “Everyday Art: The Functional Sculpture of Wharton Esherick”, on Monday, Nov. 28at 7p.m. Julie Gannaway of the Wharton Esherick Museumwill be the speaker. Wharton Esherick (1887-1970) was a sculptor who worked primarily in wood, extending his unique forms to furniture, furnishings, utensils, interiors, and buildings. Wharton began his artistic journey as a painter in Philadelphia but left his legacy as a wood sculptor in Chester County where he would lead the studio furniture movement and earn the title, “Dean of the American Craft.” Julie Gannaway is the director of business and development at the Wharton Esherick Museum in Malvern, where she manages the museum’s revenue generation and operations. A Book Club for Millennials: Phoenixville Public Library’s newly renamed book club for adults in their 20s and 30s, Books on Tap, will meet next on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 7:30p.m. at Iron Hill Brewery, 130 Bridge St., Phoenixville. The book discussed will be “Red Rising” by Pierce Brown. New York Times bestseller “Red Rising” is the first book of a gritty, complex trilogy that blazes its own trail. On desolate Mars, the protagonist, Darrow, is caught in a class system that thrives on oppression and secrecy. He is a Red, the lowest member of society, born to toil in the bowels of the planet in service to the sovereign Golds. When Darrow suffers a devastating loss and betrayal he becomes a revolutionary, taking on a dangerous role in an attempt to bring about social justice. This simple workshop introduces several mindfulness strategies that may help you be less stressed and more present for the joyful aspects of the season. Phoenixville Public Library will host the AARP Smart Driver 8-hour class on Thursday, Dec. 1 and Friday, Dec. 2from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. both days. The AARP Smart Driver course offers drivers age 50and older an important opportunity to learn how to drive more efficiently and safely. Participants may be eligible to receive an insurance discount upon completing the course, so consult your insurance agent for details. AARP membership is not required to take the course and there are no tests to pass. Cost is $15 for AARP members showing your membership card and $20for non-members. This event is open to the public. Free weekly clinic for the public on Thursdays, except the fourth Thursday of the month, from 5to 7p.m. On the second Thursday, the hours will be 5to 6:30p.m. Rick Linn, LLC will provide information, counseling and advocacy in areas of law including family law, trusts and estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law and legal issues facing small businesses.
