MobileWorkforce Navigator: Your guide to resources available to unemployed and underemployed job seekers through the PA CareerLink and the United Way Financial Stability Center of Chester County, is available for free, walk-in appointments each Wednesday from 10:45a.m. to 12:45p.m., immediately following the weekly meeting of the Library’s Career Success Group. Phoenixville Tech Group: The Phoenixville Tech Group holds weekly morning meetings at Phoenixville Public Library on Mondays from 10a.m. to noon, and monthly evening meetings on the third Thursday of the month from 7to 8:30p.m. The Phoenixville Tech Group brings technology users together to share knowledge and experience. We are particularly interested in helping those who have limited or no experience with computers. Topics that can be addressed include: digital cameras, cell phones, tablets, cable TV & FiOS, GPS, computer and printer recommendations, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, email, software installation, computer security, speeding up a sluggish computer, and more. Math 24Club: Mondays from 5 to 5:45p.m. For those in grades three to five. Math 24is a game that builds strong mental math and problem-solving skills. Cuéntame un cuento/Tell Me a Story: Second Wednesday of the month from 1to 1:30p.m. Ages 3-5with caregiver . No registration required. This is a bilingual storytime. Open Mic Night forWriters: Phoenixville Public Library will host its next Open Mic Night for Writers Monday, Oct. 16, beginning at 6:30p.m. Writers are invited to share their work in an engaging and fun setting, with the opportunity to network with other practitioners of the writing craft. Readers are limited to five minutes or four pages, whichever comes first. Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited. APPRISE Medicare Open Enrollment Assistance: Free, unbiased, confidential appointments with a certified APPRISE counselor will be available at Phoenixville Public Library during Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period. Apprise is Pennsylvania’s state-run Medicare counseling program. Appointments will be available on Wednesdays at noon, 1:30or 3p.m. from Oct. 18 through Dec. 6. Solving the Social Security Puzzle: Phoenixville Public Library will host the free presentation “Solving the Social Security Puzzle” Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. Ethan Quirin of The Scharf Group LLC will be the speaker. This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required on the Adult Events Calendar at phoenixvillelibrary.org or by calling 610-933-3013ext. 132. “You Only Die Once” — An After-Hours Murder Mystery: Phoenixville Public Library will host “You Only Die Once,” a murder mystery, Friday, Oct. 20, at 7p.m. This participatory, after-hours event is presented by Victorian Vanities Inc. Each guest is asked to play a character in this whodunit, which will last between 60and 90minutes. Costumes, props and prizes provided. Memorization of lines or prior acting experience is not required. Bring reading glasses if needed. Participants will be asked to read clues from their clue cards, answer questions and perhaps play charades. This event is free and open to the public. If you register, you are agreeing to participate in the program. Microsoft Office & More!: Learn Microsoft’s Office 2013programs and more in a series of free classes on selected Saturdays through December. IT professional Ernie Tidball is the instructor. The class schedule is as follows: Oct. 21 (Excel Intermediate); Oct. 28 (Outlook); Nov. 4(Word Intermediate); Nov. 18(Excel Advanced); Nov. 25(Publisher Basic); Dec. 2 (Cyber Security). Class time is 10 a.m. to noon in the Library’s Community Education Room. Students may bring their own laptops with Office 2013installed (Office not needed for Facebook and Cyber Security classes) and should bring a USB drive if they wish to save their work. Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to use a keyboard and mouse are required. Space is limited. Students may register for one or any combination of classes. When registering, indicate if you will be
bringing a laptop. Learn Your Smartphone or Tablet: Learn to use your smartphone or tablet in classes Saturday, Oct. 21. Joanne Hyndman is the instructor. “Learn Your iPhone/ iPad” will be held from 1to 2:30 p.m., and “Learn Your Android Smartphone or Tablet” from 3to 4:30p.m. Each class will cover: calling and texting (and settings), contacts, button features, touch screen navigation, Siri or Personal Assistant and display settings. Cost for each class is $10, payable at the door. Take-home handouts provided. This event is open to the public. Space is limited. Medicare is making a number of changes for 2018. Open Enrollment, your chance to examine and modify your coverage for next year, begins Oct. 15. Pennsylvania Philharmonic Brass Concert: Phoenixville Public Library will present a free concert by The Pennsylvania Philharmonic Brass Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 7p.m. In a concert titled “From Bourbon St. to Bernstein,” the Philharmonic Brass will play selections from the Philharmonic’s upcoming 2017-18season. Adult Spanish Book Club: Phoenixville Public Library’s Adult Spanish Book Club will meet next Thursday, Oct. 26, from 7to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy a casual discussion, in Spanish, of “Crónica de una muerte anunciada” by Gabriel García Márquez.
