Phoenix FictionWriters: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 9p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowerment and constructive criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/offer input on material read. Free and open to public. Legal Outreach Clinic: A free legal clinic will be offered at Phoenixville Public Library on the first Thursday of the month from 5to 7:30p.m. Ian J. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixville Legal Outreach Clinic, providing information, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultation with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. Consultations are provided on a first-come, first served basis. Phoenixville Tech Group: The Phoenixville Tech Group holds weekly morning meetings at Phoenixville Public Library on Mondays from 10a.m. to noon, and monthly evening meetings on the third Thursday of the month from 7to 8:30p.m. The Phoenixville Tech Group brings technology users together to share knowledge and experience. We are particularly interested in helping those who have limited or no experience with computers. Topics that can be addressed include: digital cameras, cell phones, tablets, cable TV & FiOS, GPS, computer and printer recommendations, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, email, software installation, computer security, speeding up a sluggish computer, and more. Phoenixville in WorldWar I: Phoenixville Public Library commemorates the 100th anniversary of America’s entrance into World War I with a free presentation by Ryan Conroy, historian and chairman of the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area, Monday, Nov. 27, at 7p.m. In his presentation, “Phoenixville in World War I,” learn the stories of the men and women from Phoenixville who served during the war. AARP Smart Driver Two-Day Class: Phoenixville Public Library will host the AARP Smart Driver Course Thursday, Dec. 7, and Friday, Dec. 8, from 10a.m. to p.m. both days. This two-day course offers an opportunity to learn how to drive more efficiently and safely. The course contains up-to-date information about changes in ourselves, our vehicles and our roads. Plus, you may be eligible to receive an insurance discount upon completing the course, so consult your insurance agent for details. AARP membership is not required to take the course, and there are no tests to pass. Cost is $15for AARP members and $20for non-members, check or money order only, payable to AARP Smart Driver. A 19th Century Christmastide: Phoenixville Public Library will present “A 19th Century Christmastide” with performer/ lecturer Rick Spencer Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7p.m.. Historical musician Rick Spencer will present a selection of Christmas songs that were popular at the end of the 1800s and are almost universally recognizable. He will offer commentary on the background and origins of the songs and the evolution of America’s 19th century Christmas traditions. He will accompany the songs on guitar, banjo, mandolin, concertina and Appalachian dulcimer. Audience members will be welcome to sing along. This event is free and open to the public. APPRISE Medicare Open Enrollment Assistance: Free, unbiased, confidential appointments with a certified APPRISE counselor will be available at Phoenixville Public Library during Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period. Apprise is Pennsylvania’s state-run Medicare counseling program. Appointments will be available on Wednesdays at noon, 1:30or 3p.m. through Dec. 6. This service is free and open to the public.
