Alberto Ruia, 77

Alberto Ruia, 77, of Cassadaga, NY, formerly of Pottstown, PA, Phoenixvil­le, PA and Fredonia, NY, died Saturday December 2, 2017 at his home with his loving family at his side. Alberto, the son of the late Dante and Elvira Ruia of Milano, Italy was born in Milano October 26, 1940. He came to America in 1956 and settled in Phoenixvil­le, PA. Alberto then enlisted in the Army. He married Arlene Teas of Pottstown, PA. in 1965 and they have three children: Lorenzo (Michele) of Forestvill­e, N.Y., Dante (Kerry) of Deansboro, N.Y. and Laura (Steve) Winterstee­n of Cassadaga, N.Y.; five grandchild­ren and two step grandchild­ren. Alberto also leaves two sisters living in Milano, Italy: Silvana (late Carlo) Dabandi and Ida (late Enrico) Dabandi and four nieces. He was predecease­d by a brother Mario Ruia formerly of Norristown, Pa.

Alberto worked in the steel industry all of his life. Starting as a draftsman with Phoenix Steel Corp., Phoenixvil­le, PA to General Foreman of Maintenanc­e at Phoenix Steel. He went on to CF& I in Pueblo, Colorado as Master Mechanic then to Special Metals of New Hartford from 1978 to become Plant Manager of the Dunkirk Special Metals Plant until retirement in 2000. After retirement he traveled to various countries as a consultant/ interprete­r for an Italian company in the steel industry.

Alberto enjoyed playing ice hockey and had a semi-profession­al football team in the Phoenixvil­le. Conskohosk­en, PA. area in the late 1960’s early 1970’s.

A Memorial Service will be held at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia on Saturday December 9, 2017 at 12 noon. There is no prior visitation. Memorial contributi­ons in Alberto’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. (woundedwar­riorprojec­t.org)
