Red Rovers Presentation: Does your New Year’s resolution have something to do with getting up, out and moving? The Chester County Red Rovers can help. Phoenixville Public Library will host a free informational session on the Red Rovers Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 7p.m. Jeanne Clancy from the Chester County Library will be the presenter. The Red Rovers is a chapter of the American Volkssport Association (AVA): America’s Walking Club. The Red Cross and You: Phoenixville Public Library will host a free presentation, “The Red Cross and YOU!,” Thursday, Jan. 4at 7p.m. Ned Bloom, senior volunteer specialist with the American Red Cross, Eastern Pennsylvania Region, will be the speaker. This presentation introduces the American Red Cross’s history, services (nationally and here in Eastern Pennsylvania) and what people need to do now to be prepared in the event of an emergency at home. Also discussed will be their free smoke alarm installation program (available to all homeowners), volunteer opportunities and more. This event is free and open to the public. Christmas Tree Sale: Perkiomen Township Fire Company will sell Douglas and Fraser Fir Christmas trees through Dec. 24at the fire company lot at Route 29 and Trappe Road. It will sell tree stands and will do stand straight tree drilling. Hours of operation will be Monday, Thursday and Friday from 6to 8p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9a.m. to 5p.m. Pennsylvania Philharmonic: The Pennsylvania Philharmonic will present “American Roots: New Orleans, New York, Chicago, and more!” at Phoenixville Area Middle Schoo Friday, Dec. 29, at 7:30p.m. The concert will celebrate original American music from Broadway musicals of New York City and jazz clubs of Chicago to brass bands of New Orleans and soundtracks of Hollywood featuring selections from Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Leonard Bernstein, JohnWilliams and more,. Participants will work on being more comfortable speaking in front of a group, correct body language, elimination of filler words, writing a great speech, constructive criticism to help each other, how to run a meeting, interview skills and much more. The final meeting is graduation day, when participants will present to their family and friends and will demonstrate the skills they learned. A Night for the Lukens Family: A Night for the Lukens Family fundraiser will take place Jan. 20 from 5to 9p.m. at Valley Forge Casino The fundraiser will aim to raise $200,000for the family in the wake of a tragic fire that took the lives of two young boys. All money raised through ticket sales, sponsorships and raffles will go directly to the family. The Montgomery County Hero Fund, Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office “Wheels of Justice” team, Irish Pub Children’s Foundation and the A-Team are all organizers of the fundraiser. January’s event will include food from area restaurants, drinks and performances byWildflower and Showtime DJ Mike Valyo. Multiple gift baskets will also be raffled off. Special guest appearances are being finalized and will be announced at a later date. Tickets are $30for police, firefighters, military and EMS and $50for the general public.
