Spring-Ford wrestling puts clamps down on Phantoms

The Spring-Ford wrestling team put on a pinning clinic in their Pioneer Athletic Conference divisional crossover match with Phoenixvil­le, scoring falls in seven of nine contested bouts they won on the way to a 69-10 decision on Saturday, January 13.

Josiah Chapman started off the pin parade at 138, and Ben D’Arcangelo (152), Tyler LaRocca (220), Matthew Lepore (285), Brandon Meredith (120), JackMcGill (126) and Dirk Nugent (132) kept it going. Louis Carba--

jal added a technical fall at 195, andMichael Gradwell a major decision at 170.

Phoenixvil­le’s points came from an Alex Washington pin at 160 and Antonio Valenteen major at 106. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 45, UP

PERPERKIOM­EN 30» The Vikings prevailed over the understaff­ed Indians in their PAC divisional crossover pairing, a slew of forfeits reversing UP’s early lead on Jan. 13.

The Tribe got off to a 24-3 lead through the first six weights, upping it to 30-15 two bouts later. But PV finished up by accepting forfeits in the final five weights to go along with pins by Austin Rowley (145) and Kevin Lovett (152) as well as P.J. Kakos’ decision at 120.

Upper Perk owed part of its early advantage to pins by Joey Carpenter (106), Jared Kuhns (113), Jarek Svanson (132) and D.J. McIlvanie (160). SPRING-FORD 67, NORRIS

TOWN10» The Rams posted eight pins in the 12 weights they won toward their PAC Liberty Division victory over the Eagles on Jan. 17.

Chase Smith (182), Tyler Larocca (220), Matthew Lepore (185) and Gus Carfagno (106) staked SpringFord to a 24-6 lead at the start, with Brandon Meredith (120), Jack McGill (126) and Dirk Nugent (132) following suit. O MEN VALLEY 27» A fivepin run through the uppermiddl­e weights enabled the Wildcats to pull away from the Vikings and post a solid PAC Liberty Division victory on Jan. 17.

OJR held a 10-6 lead after four bouts, at which time Antonio Petrucelli (138), Cole Meredith (145), Daniel Mancini (152), Ricky McCutchen (160) and Jason Zollers (170) racked up their falls. Josh Jackson closed out the match for Roberts with a pin at 106 after PV got a series of drops from Jakob Sterling (182), Willie Mathis (195), Gavin Euker (220) and Jahir Holmes (285).

Carson Parke had a game-high 14 points in

helping PV reverse an initial 10-8 deficit into a 23-15 halftime advantage. Ryan Kendra scored 12 points to lead UP, with Liam Boyle adding another 11.

Tyler Strechay scored 16 points, and Dante Graves 12, to lead the Vikings’ win over the Wildcats in their reschedule­d PAC Liberty Division game on Jan. 13.

Girls basketball

Megan Jonassen had a game-high 13 points to spark the Vikings’ win over the Indians in their PAC divisional crossover game on Jan. 16.

Taylor Hamm chipped in with another 11 for PV, which built a 36-11 lead in the first half and went into the fourth quarter up 48-13. Sierra Kelly had six points to head PV in a game started earlier than scheduled, a function of inclement-weather.

With Lucy Olsen and Abby Goodrich each scoring 12 points, the undefeated Rams used an 18-point

third quarter to break out of a tie with the Eagles and win this non-league game on Jan. 13.

Along with the gamehigh outputs of Olsen and Goodrich, Spring-Ford got another 10 from Rachel Christman. Theywere key to Spring-Ford going up 38-27 after threequart­ers, the clubs knotted at 20 at the half.

Boys swimming

Simon Crew and Dalton Fink each won pairs of individual races to head the Wildcats in their PACmeet with the Rams on Jan. 17.

Crew took the 200 free (1:49.40) and 100 free (49.52), with Fink doing the same in the 100 fly (54.60) and the 100 back (55.57).

Jack Hussin was part of four firstplace finishes during the Phantoms PAC win over the Vikings on Jan. 16.

Hussin took individual firsts in the 200 free (1:52.84) and the 500 free (5:06.49) and was also part of the 200 free relay (1:34.92) as well as the 400 free relay (3:33.73). George Pappas (100 back, 57.04) and Dominic Sposato (100 breast, 1:05.51) also picked up individual firsts for the

Phantoms.

EthanHinz andMatthew Marsh were both dual racewinner­s for Perk Valley.

Girls swimming

Mikayla Niness figured in on three first-place showings by the Wildcats in their PACmeet with the Rams on Jan. 17.

Niness headed the 50 free (25.14) and the 100 free (54.91) in addition to swimming the anchor leg of OJR’s winning 200 free relay (1:41.37). Meredith Ruckelshau­s won two individual events for SpringFord, taking the 100 fly (1:02.15) and 100 breast (1:14.33).

Erini Pappas was part of four firstplace finishes to lead the Phantoms to a PAC win over the Vikings on Jan. 16.

Pappas took first in the 100 fly (59.05) and the 100 back (59.84) while swimming a leg in both the 200 medley (1:56.99) and 200 free relays (1:43.75). Sarah Ritter was part of both relays and also took an individual first with a 25.83 in the 50 free.

Emily Hinz and Alyssa Marano swama leg in Perk Valley’s top-finishing 400 free relay to go along with individual firsts.
