Luca is a sweet and affectionate 5 to 6-year-old tabby male who likes other cats and people. If you are looking for a lap cat that wants to be indoors and around his people this guy is for you. Luca is laid back and easy going. He is playful but loves to look out the windows while sitting on the sills. He would prefer a cat who doesn’t play rough. He is handsome with neat markings and soft eyes. Luca will love having his own family and has lots of love to give and receive. Phoenix Fiction Writers: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowerment and constructive criticism. How to Write Fiction: Phoenixville Public Library will host a free three-hour workshop for aspiring writers, “How to Write Fiction,” Wednesday, Aug.
29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop will be led by author Elizabeth Doan and will teach the basics of composing a story. Participants will learn about plotting, characterization, dialogue and narration, setting and more. There will be an exercise at every point along the way. Doan is a published author who writes novels for young people and historical romance novels. She has an MFA in creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts and is currently contracted with MacMillan for two upcoming novels. This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited. Microsoft Word & Excel Classes: Phoenixville Public Library will host basic and intermediate level classes on Microsoft’s Word and Excel programs on selected Saturdays in September and October. Marking a Trail of Women’s History: Phoenixville Public Library will host a free presentation, Marking a Trail of Women’s History, Monday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. Robyn Young will be the speaker. This educational presentation will explore Young’s work to obtain 20 historical markers since 2001 for women’s history throughout Pennsylvania, including the 1852 Women’s Rights Convention site in West Chester; women artists Ida Ella Ruth Jones, Jackie Ormes, Tatiana Proskouriakoff and Ethel Waters; and suffragists Anna Howard Shaw and Ann Preston. She will show photos of the women, the artists’ artwork and the locations of the markers. Young’s book, “Women in Penn’s Woods,” will be available for sale and signing after the program.
