LIMERICK » The Limerick Fire Company will be hosting its very first Firefighter Day Camp for individuals with special needs beginning next month.

The camp will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13. The event will have two separate sessions from 9 am until 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

There are still slots open in both sessions for campers to sign up. The camp is open to all ages and all disabilities. The cost of the camp is $25 and each individual will receive their own shirt and hat from the event.

Registration forms can be obtained online at: limerickfirerescue.org.

Some of the activities will include a tour of the firehouse, learning about the fire apparatus and the gear firefighters wear, using fire extinguishers and hoses, as well as a smoke detector demonstration.

Firefighter and camp organizer Gina Walters says, “This is a first camp of its kind in our local area”. She added, “Often people with special needs get frightened in time of an emergency, this is an opportunity for us to show how we are there to help and decrease the fear in people”.

Registration closes Friday September 14th. If prospective individuals or their care takers have questions, they can contact Gina Walters via email at gwalters@limerickfirerescue.org.
