Pope John Paul II girls volleyball sweeps Phoenixvil­le

Chelsea Harvey was one of seven players putting up big numbers for the Pope John Paul II girls volleyball team Thursday.

It all helped the Golden Panthers blank Phoenixvil­le, 3-0, in their Pioneer Athletic Conference match. PJP won by set scores of 2522, 25-15 and 25-16.

Harvey made 23 assists, four digs and two aces for PJP, which also got 12 kills and three aces from Mikaela Monroe. Madeline Mulcahey added five kills, Hanna Tulli six kills, Haley Spotts six kills, three aces and eight digs, Lexi McMonagle eight assists and one ace and Simone Sparano 13 digs..

Keara Hennessey made 17 assists for Phoenixvil­le. Kayla Grammersto­rf had 10 kills and nine digs. Romina Broglia added one ace, three kills and two digs, and Malu Salin Matos had three kills.

Boys Soccer

J. ROBERTS 1 » Brian Love finished a feed from Alfredo Grimaldi with 2:12 left in the overtime period to lift the Perkiomen Valley boys soccer team to a 2-1 win over Owen J. Roberts in a Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division matchup on Wednesday night.

Matt Holmes opened the scoring 18 minutes into regulation while OJR’s Kyle Storti evened it up with 3:39 left in regulation. For the game, PV keeper Josh Moyer made six saves while OJR’s Ryan Walker finished with five.

MERION 1 » The Phantoms prevailed in a PAC Frontier matchup in overtime after getting scores from JT Stevens and Kyle Flick. Cole O’Neill had an assist on the winning goal. Gavin Perillo made four saves in goal.

Girls soccer

MERION 2 » Gabrielle Perrotto and Sydney Goodhart each had hat tricks as the Phantoms knocked off the Vikings in PAC Frontier Division action.

Perrotto also had an assist on the night, while Morgan Beatty added a pair of assists of her own in the win. Freshman goalkeeper Ella Stout recorded four saves on the night.

MORELAND 2 » Leeza Galli gave the Phantoms a late equalizer, but neither team could muster a game-winner over two overtime periods as they and Lower Moreland settled for a nonleague draw.

Mary Michaud also scored for the Phantoms (1-1-1), who also got an assist by Morgan Beatty on the day.

Phoenixvil­le outshot Lower Moreland, 8-6, with Phantoms goalkeeper Ella Stout making six saves.

Field Hockey

MERION 0 » Nicole Thompson notched a hat trick to lead the Phantoms to a PAC Frontier Division win over the Vikings.

Gabby Herschell had two goals and an assist while Aubrie Breisblatt scored twice. Katie Shanno, Ameerah Green and Lucy O’Donnell each added a goal and an assist in the win.

Boys golf

VALLEY 214 » While Andrew Burkhardt claimed low-man honors for the Vikings, the Phantoms turned in four of the next five cards to secure their PAC victory at Pickering Valley.

Behind Burkhardt’s twoover-par 38, Phoenixvil­le got 39s from P.J. Sullivan and Kyle Resuta and a 40 from Mitchell Schwartz. Bryan Maguire followed with a 41, matching PV’s C.J. Bono.

SPRING-FORD 7, UPPER MERION0»

The Rams lost just two games in singles play on the way to their PAC sweep of the Vikings.

Tori Alexander’s 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles keyed Spring-Ford.

PAUL II 2 » A sweep of singles was key to the Phantoms topping the Golden Panthers in their PAC match.

Julia Gumieniak and Gina Brown won their respective first and second singles by 6-0, 6-0 results. PJP’s points came from the first doubles team of Shannon Farnsworth and Maggie Christians­en.
