Limerick hotel manager sentenced for $19K theft

NORRISTOWN >> The former general manager of a Limerick hotel has a hefty restitution bill, probation and community service in connection with the theft of more than $19,000 from the hotel while he worked there.

Jayson Glenn Miller, 38, of the 6700 block of Limekiln Pike, Philadelphia, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to five years’ probation after he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of receiving stolen property in connection with incidents that occurred while he worked at The Hampton Inn on West Linfield-Trappe Road in Limerick.

Judge William R. Carpenter, who accepted a plea agreement in the case, also ordered Miller to complete 50 hours of community service and to pay the hotel $19,067 in restitution.

An investigation of Miller began in January when hotel management contacted Limerick police to report two incidents of theft by a former employee.

“The first method was comprised of two transactions, in which the employee received a check payment intended for the hotel. The second method

involved the use of a customer to pocket a cash payment intended for the hotel,” Limerick Detective David Bartok explained in the arrest affidavit.

The president of Limerick Hotel Corporation, the owner of the Hampton Inn, reported that employees, while reconciling accounts at the end of 2017, discovered an outstanding balance of $19,067 owed by an organization that did business with the hotel. When hotel officials inquired about the balance, it was learned that the organization had issued two checks for hotel services to Miller in June and July of 2017 and the investigation revealed that the checks were endorsed with Miller’s name and cashed.

“Miller had access to hotel records as well as the checks. However, Miller was not entitled to either payment,” Bartok alleged.

During a second incident, a guest met with Miller at the hotel on Aug. 29, 2017, to reserve a conference room for an event the following week. Miller requested that the guest to pay in cash and the guest paid Miller $200 cash to rent the room, according to the criminal complaint.

The guest returned to the hotel on Sept. 8 and discovered there was no record of the payment and hotel officials reported a loss of $200.

“Again, Miller was not entitled to the payment,” Bartok alleged.

The guest subsequently was accommodated by the hotel, court papers indicate.
