Saint Mary Catholic School will put your ‘most valuable treasure’ on its right course
What is your most valuable treasure?
To some of us, this would be a very difficult question to answer. But to most of us, this is a very easy question to answer! Our children are our most valuable treasure!
As parents, we all have hopes and dreams for our children. But more important than that are the decisions we must make from the moment they enter into our life and families. One of the most serious decisions parents have to make when their children are ready to enroll in school is where should we send our children to receive the academic rigor they will need to be contributing citizens of the 21st century.
Some factors that parents should consider when choosing a school are:
• Does Saint Mary Catholic School reinforce our spiritual and moral values we practice at home?
Saint Mary Catholic School has a rich and distinguished history of 57 years of being a “parish school,” educating and supporting students from our Agnus Dei Academy preschool for 3- and 4-yearolds through eighth grade.
Since its inception in 1961, Saint Mary Catholic School strives “to teach as Jesus did” through the traditions of the Roman Catholic faith. Saint Mary Catholic School is built on faith and love. Students, families and staff work together to proclaim the message of the Gospel through service to others.
We prepare students to be lifelong learners, as well as responsible, respective members of society who carry the love for Jesus and for others with them at all times.
• Does Saint Mary Catholic School have teachers that will go beyond the textbook and challenge my child to ask their own questions and find their answer by “thinking outside the box”?
We at Saint Mary Catholic School believe learning is a profoundly human process, one best accomplished through patient, qualitative drawing out, rather than a mechanistic, filling up. It is obvious to our parents and students at Saint Mary Catholic School the love which our teachers have for the subject matter, their mastery of it and their talent in communicating that knowledge and love help our students develop and grow into lifelong learners.
• Does Saint Mary Catholic School have teachers that recognize, support, enrich and challenge children’s gifts and talents in art and music?
In our Visual Arts Department, we are happy to announce that our school now has a ceramic kiln on site, and we will be including ceramics into our art curriculum.
In addition, our students will be experiencing fiber arts, mixed media, art history, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) projects.
At Saint Mary Catholic School, our students have many opportunities to display their artwork both here at school and in our surrounding communities. We strongly believe that a well-rounded arts integrated curriculum fosters creative problem solving, critical thinking and builds self-esteem.
• Performing arts.
In our music and performing arts classes this year, Saint Mary Catholic School students will be singing, dancing and experiencing the joy of music and performing arts through playing a variety of instruments such as recorders, hand chimes, guitars and drums, just to mention a few.
Theater arts will also be experienced in the curriculum.
In addition to English, ASL, Spanish and Latin languages will be used in singing. At Saint Mary Catholic School, we have two school choirs, Cherubim and Seraphim.
Our students have many opportunities to develop their talent and perform for our school and parish community, as well as singing and performing in public for a variety of different communities from Souderton to Philadelphia. New to this year’s list of performances that our students will be engaging in is our dinner theater on May 18, 2019.
At Saint Mary Catholic School, we believe that music and the performing arts hold a prominent place in the spectrum of arts and are of paramount importance in the development of the whole child.
• Does Saint Mary Catholic School have a physical education and wellness program that builds and enriches the body, mind and soul?
You will notice the Saint Mary Catholic School physical education program provides another opportunity for students to further develop their talents and potential.
We believe that physical education is part of
the formation of the human person. This development includes attention to the physical body in a healthy way that acknowledges the necessity of both correct knowledge and appropriate activities in order to promote genuine human well-being.
The objective of the physical education program at Saint Mary Catholic School is to develop the knowledge, skills and values related to motor skills and movement principles, health-related fitness, sportsmanship and personal responsibility, lifetime sports and leisure activities. All students at Saint Mary Catholic School are nurtured in this development appropriate to their age and ability.
• We are committed as a Catholic school.
Saint Mary Catholic School recognizes the need
to adapt to an ever-changing world, constantly updating educational strategies and technology and infusing our curriculum to offer tools that will help students maximize their potential.
With the commitment of our devoted faculty and staff, we are dedicated to providing a safe, secure learning environment that fosters and supports integration across our curriculum: religion, honors math and algebra, language arts, science, social studies, foreign language, technology, music, art and physical education.
