Perk Valley girls volleyball falls to Plymouth-Whitemarsh in 5 sets

The Perkiomen Valley girls volleyball team saw its season come to a finish with a 3-2 five-set loss against Plymouth-Whitemarsh during the second round of the District One Class 4A playoffs on Thursday night.

The No. 6-seeded Colonials won the opening set 25-22 before No. 11 Perk Valley answered with a 25-14 decision. Plymouth then picked up a tight 26-24 win in the third set before PV put together a 2513 victory to even it up. Plymouth then closed out the match with a 15-12 win in the final set.

Lia Torrillo paced the Vikings with 17 kills while Grace Herbein had four kills, four blocks, 40 assists and 24 digs. Sarah Straub posted 11 kills, three aces and three blocks while Liz Caruso had 23 digs.

Girls tennis

Methacton’s Dina Nouaime and Tina Prince were shut out of their bid to win the District’s Class AAA championsh­ip by Harriton’s Sophia Sassoli and Saige Roshkoff during the Doubles Tournament’s final at Legacy.

Sassoli/Roshkoff swept their duel with Nouaime/Prince 6-0, 6-0. Nouaime and Prince, however, will be part of the district’s contingent competing in the PIAA tournament being held in Hershey Nov. 2-3, the top four singles and doubles finishers qualifying.

Nouaime/Prince, the district’s sixth seed, won four previous matches to qualify for the championsh­ip. Following a three-set win over first-round opponent Jenny Landells/Julia Fridenberg of Wissahicko­n, they took their next three in two-set verdicts.
