Clark, Quinn lead Phoenixvil­le past Pottstown, 74-55

Dylan Clark and K.J. Quinn combined for 45 points to lead the Phoenixvil­le boys basketball team past Pottstown, 74-55 in their Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division game on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Clark netted game scoring honors with 24 while Quinn added 21. Phoenixvil­le also got a 10-point outing from Steve Hamilton while Pottstown had a trio of double-figure scorers in Floyd Dashiell (14), Robert Burress (13) and Jsuan Jones (10).

Zach Krause and Bryce Streeper combined for 22 points to lead the Vikings to a win over the Warriors in a PAC Liberty Division showdown on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Krause hit three from 3-point land and finished with 12 points while Streeper scored 10. Tyler Strechay (nine points) hit a pair of 3-pointers as Perk Valley used a 13-4 advantage during the third quarter to pull away. Jeff Woodward and Owen Kropp led the way for Methacton with 12 points apiece.

As Noah Baker edged out Aarick Salata for game scoring honors, the Rams held off the Bears for victory in their Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division game on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Baker had an 18-17 lead on Salata in points, helping Spring-Ford work its way back from 18-11 and 27-25 deficits in the first two quarters. Tyler Scilingo added 10 points for the Rams, with the Bears getting 14 from Tre DiGuglielm­o — 12 of them came from 3-point range — and 11 from Hunter Borgmann.

The Phantoms picked up a PAC Frontier Division win over the Golden Panthers on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

The Vikings were in good position to win their game with Norristown on Friday, Dec. 14.

Then the second half started, and the Vikings saw their early advantage erased by the Eagles. Norristown completed its late run by edging PV, 55-54, in their Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division pairing.

Nizer Kinney scored a game-high 21 points for Norristown, which trailed PV 34-27 after one half. Tyrique Lyons (15 points) and Mickeel Allen (10) helped the Eagles work back for the victory after winning the fourth quarter, 16-11.

Zach Krause netted a game-high 23 points for the Vikes, with Tyler Strechay adding another 18.

Girls basketball

Abby Penjuke scored 15 points with three 3-pointers to lead the Warriors to a PAC Liberty Division win over the Vikings on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Sydney Hargrove added 10 points while Sydney Tornetta (14 rebounds) scored nine. Methacton led 32-24 at the half. Jennifer Beattie led PV with 13 points while Katie Hurd and Lily Sherman each scored 12.

Kallan Bustynowic­z scored 11 points and the Golden Panthers handed the Phantoms their first loss of the season in this PAC Frontier Division meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Lauren Ciuba and Amelia Kennedy scored nine points apiece for PJP, which led 24-15 at the half. Ameerah Green paced Phoenixvil­le with a game-high 12 points.

Kelly Owens scored a gamehigh 17 points while freshman Emma Miley scored 13 but the Vikings fell short in a non-conference loss against West Chester Rustin on Monday, Dec. 17.

Owens scored three times from 3-point land while Miley had two treys for Perk Valley, which trailed 28-24 at the half. Rustin’s Becca Magrone (four 3-pointers) and Dakiya Daniels head 14 points apiece while Grace Plona and Laney Coston each added 12.

The Phantoms maintained their fast start to the 2018-19 season by topping the Trojans in their PAC Frontier Division contest on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Phoenixvil­le (5-0) won on the strength of 24 points and eight rebounds from Aubrie Briesblatt and 16 points from Ameerah Green. Breisblatt’s breakout season continues as she made six three pointers in the game.

Kiyana Cotton was Pottstown’s leading scorer with 16 points.

Cassie Marte headed a trio of double-figure scorers whose balance carried the Rams over the Golden Panthers in a nondivisio­nal pairing of PAC teams on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Marte’s game-high 12 points put her ahead of the 11-point outings by Lucy Olsen and Skylar Sullivan. Kallan Busknowicz was high scorer for PJP with 10.

Kelly Owens was the leading scorer for the Lady Vikings as they ran away from the Eagles in their PAC Liberty Division game on Friday, Dec. 14.

Owens had a game-high 19 points, edging out Norristown’s Emily Schools (18) for that distinctio­n even while Schools hit four times from three-point range. Katie Hurd was second-highest scorer for PV with 12 points.

Boys swimming

The Vikings finished first in every event on the way to a PAC win over the Eagles on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Dylan Alexander was part of four first-place finishes for PV, taking the 200 free (1:52.76) and 500 free (5:02.63). He also anchored the 200 medley relay (1:52.47) and 400 free relay (5:34.12). Ethan Hinz and Jacob Replogle were both part of th relay wins, with Hinz taking first in the 100 fly (57.33) and Replogle winning the 100 back (1:00.43).

Luke McKenna and Sean Laing were each part of two wins as the Rams picked up a Pioneer Athletic Conference win over the Warriors on Monday, Dec. 17.

McKenna touched first in the 500 free (5:04.88) while Laing topped the 200 IM (2:09.42). Both were also part of Spring-Ford’s 200 medley relay, which touched at 1:46.01.

George Pappas won pairs of individual races to lead the Phantoms past the Patriots in their non-league meet on Friday, Dec. 14.

Pappas took first in the 100 free (52.49) and 100 back (57.21). He also swam the lead leg on Phoenixvil­le’s winning 200 medley, which clocked a 1:44.37.

Girls swimming

The Vikings claimed every event on the way to a PAC win over the Eagles on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Alyssa Marano was part of four first-place finishes for Perk Valley, topping the charts in the 50 free (26.56) and 100 free (58.09). She also anchored both the 200 medley relay (2:04.85) and the 200 free relay (1:53.04).

Emma Thomas and Katie Parker were each part of four first-places finishes for the Rams in this PAC win over the Warriors on Monday, Dec. 17.

Thomas took first in the 200 IM (2:24.50) and the 100 back (1:05.82) while Parker topped the 50 free (26.80) and the 500 free (5:36.12). The pair also swam as part of the 200 medley relay (1:57.90) and the 400 free relay (3:57.46).

Erini Pappas won pairs of individual races to lead the Phantoms over the Patriots in their non-league meet on Friday, Dec. 14.

Pappas won the 100 free (55.82) and 100 back (1:00.46). She also swam legs on Phoenixvil­le’s winning 200 medley relay (1:55.32) and 400 free relay (4:00.58).

Wrestling

Winning six of the last seven bouts, the Vikings overturned the Battlin’ Bulls’ early lead and coasted to victory in this non-league match on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Pins by John Evans (138), Jake Elafi (145), Austin Rowley (160) and Nico Holder (195), coupled with Jacob Sturm’s 11-9 decision at 195, were more than enough for PV to erase GM’s 22-18 lead at the midway point on the card. Luke Ricci kicked in with another fall at 113 as the Vikes went back-andforth with their guests in the first half.

Perkiomen Valley placed fourth in the Colley Classic Saturday, Dec. 15, going 1-2 on the weekend.

The Vikings opened the action by romping over Roman Catholic, 68-7. But they lost to host East in the semifinals, 37-31, and to Octorara in the third-place match, 38-23.

Brett Sacks went 3-0 wrestling both 113 and 120. Austin Rowley (152) and Jacob Sturm (182) also went 3-0 on the day.

Phoenixvil­le placed seventh in the Fear The Tribe Duals, which wrapped up Saturday, Dec. 15, going 1-2 on the weekend.

The Phantoms opened with losses to Pine Grove (42-30) and Martin Luther King (38-33). But they rebounded to dispatch Franklin Towne Charter in the finals, 52-30.

SpringFord swept through the field of the annual duals tournament in dominating fashion Saturday, Dec. 15.

The Rams averaged 54.6 points per match in their 5-0 run, one capped by a 62-9 romp over Pennsbury in the championsh­ip duel. Their other opponents were Wissahicko­n (60-14), Penncrest (52-18), the host Ghosts (46-20) and Upper Darby (53-21).

Spring-Ford’s run was bolstered by a number of contestant­s going 5-0 on the day. Shane Reynolds (113), Quinn Tobin (120), Jack McGill (138), Dirk Nugent (152), D.J. Francis (170/182) and Joey Milano (195) all swept their ways through the competitio­n.

Chase Smith added a 3-0 mark working out of the 195-pound slot. Alex Johns (132), Zach Needles (145) and Gavin Hartman (160) kicked in with 4-1 days.
