- By Bill Arsenault

Alexa Luecke is just a freshman but she is already the top performer on the Washington College women’s swim team.

Luecke, from Pottstown and an Owen J. Roberts graduate, had another big performance as the Shorewomen dropped a 150-95 meet against York on Dec. 8 in York. She won the 200 IM in 2:16.72 and finished second in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:21.97. She was third in the 500 free in 5:31.58 but was awarded first because York’s swimmers swam exhibition races at the distance.

In a 165-95 victory over Bryn Mawr in a home meet in Chestertown, Md. on Nov. 17, Luecke took the 100 free in 56.73, the 500 free in 5:32.79 and the 1,000 free in 11:17.10.

“Alexa has really embraced college swimming and the practice schedule in a few short months,” coach Matt Harris said. “Our season started officially in late September, but she was very active before that both in the water and in the gym.”

The coach calls Luecke “a competitor through and through” and she’s proved that by swimming some tough events for the team.

“Alexa has brought in big points in meets that we needed,” Harris said. “She is a great teammate and inspires confidence as a natural-born leader. The sky really is the limit for her the next three and a half years.”

The 6-foot freshman forward has come off the bench in all 11 games for the 6-5 Fordham women’s basketball team. She’s averaging 3.5 points and 3.9 rebounds a game.
