Barnstone Art for kids paint doors for new center
PHOENIXVILLE >> Barnstone Art for Kids, a non-profit in Phoenixville, joins The Heart, in of all places, the bathroom.
Barnstone decoratively painted the first of several bathroom stall doors for installation at the new center, The Heart.
The Heart is a collaborative community center headed by Kristen McGee from Ann’s Heart and includes many local nonprofits in a new facility on Church Street in Phoenixville.
The door takes inspiration from the Dr. Suess classic, The Lorax, and includes artwork and quotes from the children’s book.
Sean Halloran, from Barnstone, painted the door and included the literary quotes in both English and Spanish.
“It’s critical that we recognize and embrace the diversity of our wonderful community. Using both the English and Spanish quotes on the door reflects that and was a nobrainer,” Halloran said.
The quote is well known and seeks to empower the young people served at The Heart. It reads, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
The door is slated to be installed for The Heart’s opening.
Barnstone will be providing its signature trauma-informed art programming at The Heart. Its space at the center hopes to be a creative and healing space for the community; where information on childhood development, trauma, and resilience will be discussed and presented.
Barnstone plans to meet and listen to the community members, and work together to create a trauma-informed, creative art experience for the children and families served.
Founded in 2011, Barnstone Art for Kids is a 501(c)3 focused on promoting resiliency in children who are facing adversity. Using the Power of Art curriculum, Barnstone staff and compassionate mentors provide small group art-making experiences with children and adolescents.
