Neafcy announces bid for 146th PA House seat
Republican Township Supervisor Thomas Neafcy has announced his candidacy for the Pennsylvania House 146th District seat now held by Democrat Joe Ciresi.
The 146th District includes the boroughs of Trappe, Royersford and part of Pottstown, as well as Limerick, Lower Pottsgrove and Perkiomen townships.
“I’ve lived in Limerick Township and the 146th State House District for over 35 years, and I have spent all 35 of those years serving our community in various volunteer leadership roles,” Neafcy said in a statement announcing his candidacy.
“I look forward to continuing to go door to door, talking with my neighbors and fellow residents about my unique experience and record of success while listening to their concerns and understanding their priorities,” Neafcy said.
Neafcy, 68, has held a variety of public service roles in Limerick since 1985, including 19 years on the board of supervisors, where he was chairman for six years.
He has also served on the township planning commission, zoning hearing board and parks and recreation commission, according to a resume he provided along with his announcement.
It is his second bid for the Republican nomination.
Neafcy announced an unsuccessful run for the Republican nomination in January of 2014 when the seat was held by Democrat Mark Painter.
In 2012, Painter had ousted then-incumbent Republican Thomas Quigley, who gained the nomination and re-gained the seat by defeating Painter in 2014.
In 2016, Quigley narrowly defeated Spring-ford School Board member Joe Ciresi and two years later, lost the re-match to Ciresi.
Ciresi has not yet issued a formal statement regarding a reelection bid, but he did hold a campaign kick-off in Trappe on Dec. 15, according to posts on his campaign Facebook page.
Neafcy made no mention of the incumbent in his announcement, choosing instead to highlight his accomplishments as a township official.
“Under Tom’s leadership Limerick Township enjoys zero township debt, a rare achievement for local government. In addition, Limerick is a leader in parks and open space preservation and enjoys the distinction of being one of the safest communities in America,” his release noted.
Neafcy has worked for PECO Energy for more than 30 years. He is currently the regional manager for Transervice Logistics. He is married to Kathy Neafcy and they have a son, Tyler.
