ROYERSFORD » Everything new is old again.

After losing his reelection bid for Royersford Borough Council in the November election, Tom Weikel, 70, nevertheless has his seat back.

During the November election, Weikel, running on the Republican line, was the lowest vote-getter in a four-way contest for three open seats.

Tiffany Moyer and Joe Moskal, both incumbents who captured both the Republican

and Democratic ballot lines in the May primary, were the top vote-getters.

Newcomer Kimberly Kirschner, who appeared only the Democratic line, came in third with 472 votes.

But Kirschner never took the seat.

Borough Manager Michael Leonard confirmed that Kirschner, citing family and medical issues, resigned the seat on Jan. 6.

During the Jan. 28 meeting, council appointed Weikel to fill the vacancy, said Leonard.

However, his term will only last for two years, when the next local election occurs. At that point, the voters will have their say again.

In the meantime, with Weikel’s appointment, the make-up of Royersford Borough Council is now the same was it was before the election.
